Best deals on best clothes
by Minashka about Potomac Mills
Potomac Mills is an outlet mall. There are probably more than 100 shops there and you can find almost anything from clothes to home appliances at awesome prices. There's a food court available if you get hungry but if you're hungry for shopping, this is the place for you! You can buy lots of nice things in the U.S. It's a great place for shopping. But you won't find many of the European brands. You can spend as much or as little as you like. The prices aren't expensive and there you'll always find good deals.

Shopping in USA
by GUYON
"Fièvre acheteuse"
I cannot give a complete range of things that an European tourist can purchase but we have an experience on :
- footware : there is a larger range of choice and several items are launched initially on the US market. But there is not a significant gap of price (FOOTLOCKER mainly) excepted in the PAYLESS which are discount stores.
- Clothes : there is a difference up to 50pct on trousers (Levis stores)
Some bargains on the T shirts, shirts, dress.
- Photo : the films can be inexpensive in the supermarkets (WAL MART for example). The cameras and other items too in the specialized discount stores.
- Cosmetics (excepted perfume) : they are sold in the supermarket with at an interesting price.
- Medicine : it is possible to buy (at ones own risks) a lot of medicines without medical order in the supermarkets.
"Without a limit"
I did not call but the result is the same.
"Buy American..."
It's generally cheaper than in Europe.
Especially the stores outlet.
"Malls"
Everything in USA is big. The malls too.
We visited :
- Potomac Mills near washington
- Franklin Mills near Philadelphia
- Sawgrass Mills at Fort Lauderdale near Miami.
- Katy Mills in Houston
- Discovery Mills in Atlanta
- Arizona Mills in Phoenix
Imagine a city devoted to the shopping.
Plenty of shops, mainly chain shops.
Several outlet stores : for clothes almost exclusively. They sell at a wholesale price and often without tax (what a bargain). In French we call these stores : Usine Center.
At least one food court.
Notice the place of your car on the parking and to the name of the entrance you use if you want to avoid to roam among some thousand cars.
Generally, we plan the visit to such a mall at the end of the travel.
"Cheap Ross"
We visit Ross clothing stores. The clothes are ordered by kind and size. The customers have trolleys with a long vertical rod in order to see where is their trolley.
"Coupons"
A real US cultural costum : the coupons.
All Americans have their pile of coupons which allow a rebate or a special advantage in a store.
You can get them :
- prior your trip asking them on the "contact us" of the websites or printing them directly from the site
- in the brochures of the visitors centers
- in the free local magasines
- in the shops and in the malls
- sometime in your hotel.
You can have several coupons for the same store or the same attraction and you must read them carefully to see what is your best bet.

Trip to Virginia in Dec/Jan
by NadimAshiq
I need some help!
I am planning a holiday to the states with my wife in Dec/Jan this coming year
We want to visit between the 4th Dec till 2nd Jan
Ideally we want to visit Florida, then Georgia, Carolina, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and back to Florida around Kissimmee
My question is will it be real busy this time of year with Christmas and new year?
Will we be able to get hotels etc, and how cold will it be?
We could visit in November but only for 3 weeks but if we visit Dec/Jan we can stay for almost a month
Any help would be much appreciated
My e-mail is:nashiq@wyjs.org.uk

You should be all right if you avoid shopping. Places like Potomac Mills Mall are jammed. Sightseeing shouldn't be too bad.
Have a great time.

You should be fine with accomodation. Things are more busy in VA in the summer. The weather, however, is very unpredictable. This year around Christmas the temperatures were quite warm. Last year there was two feet of snow on the ground. Who knows what we will have next year or even next week. The weather on the East Coast of the US is unpredictable year to year.
Having said that go anyway. You shouldn't have any problems. Virginia is a great state.
