Need to stay with a place with kitchenette
by shegde
We are planning to travel to DC with 2.5 old daughter. I am looking for a place with access to Metro in a decent neighborhood. My parents are traveling with us, so i want a place with atleast 2 bed room and a small kitchenette.

You might try looking in Arlington. I know my daughter stayed somewhere near the Metro in Virginia a year or so ago with her kids, and they took the Metro in for the 4th of July celebrations. I'm pretty sure they had a kitchenette. I don't remember the name of the hotel though.

Marriott Key Bridge (marriott.com, or washington.org) hosted a family of 4 from Puerto Rico, July 2-7, 2008, 3 1/2 stars, remodeled, excellent I would say, for $ 71.00/night. Rosslyn Metro Station 4 blocks away, extremely safe, gorgeous property. No kitchenette, but greatly appointed rooms. Please, check Hotel Reviews here in VT to read my comments. Good Luck!

The Marriot Residence Inn - Dupont has 2br suites with kichenettes. Although it says Dupont, it is a nice area called Thomas Circle, which is about 5-6 blocks from the White House, and only 3-4 blocks from the Metro. It's accessible to other places in the District as well.

Travel Tips for Washington D.C.
Cherry Blossoms
by karenincalifornia
I think this season is not so easy to predict. We arrived in DC during the second week of April. I was told by locals that I would be too late for cherry blossoms. Much to our delight, we weren't. The cherry trees were in full bloom around Capitol Hill.
A great man...

The Lincoln Memorial is one of my favorite monuments in D.C. Not only was Lincoln a great man, his monument is really impressive (postcards don't do it justice).
There are usually lots of people hanging out around it, lazing on the steps or playing frisbee or soccer on the grass nearby.
And, of course, you all know about the Vietnam and the Korean War memorials? One to each side of the Lincoln Memorial? Those might be worth a look or two or three as well ;) Not a favorite memory but... I took this picture of a statue near the Vietnam War Memorial and entered it in the International Library of Photography contest. I got published in their book and on their website :)

Visit the Vietnam Memorial. It is an extremely humbling experience. You cannot go there and not be moved. The hotel room was nice...
But seriously, it was probably at the Lincoln Memorial, me and my then girlfriend, held pennies up, while we took pictures. It was goofy but both of us still look at those pictures and laugh.

visit the WHITE HOUSE.
If you've always wanted to know how the White House really looks like inside or experience how the US Government works, I would highly recommend the FREE self-guided tour... er... but please make sure you don't go wandering into the wrong office like you-know-who's!
The White House is open for visits/ tours every Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 12 noon ONLY.
And their prestigious address?
1600 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington D.C. 20004.
Tourist Pages

I really like the page here from the House of Representatives. They list many of the sites by interest in Washington DC. They also include links to the official government websites for a lot of the sites.

Thanks,
