First off, The Dupont Hotel is in one of the best locations in D.C. close to all major atractions and nightlife right on posh Dupont Circle. This is our second stay at The Dupont, the first prior to remodel, and let me say that the remodel was completed with the up-most attention to detail with their new modern-chic deco. Our room had an excellent view, very comfortable bed, beautiful amenities, and AWESOME bathrooms with marble walls, heated tile floors and lots of opaque glass...very upscale. We had dinner in the hotel resturant, The Dupont Grill, and my wife and I had the best Tuna Tartar we have had in sometime and finished with a perfectly cooked Filet! The service was second to none...we felt like the only couple in The Dupont Grill. Thanks for the great stay Dupont....we will be back!
great stay

My wife and babe stayed the weekend at the Dupont while in town for a wedding. I had stayed previously (in the jurys hotel days), and I was surprised by the changes. The place is now aggressively modern and hip, with chill-out music and high design aspirations. It's all a little over-the-top, but the staff is super-nice and the location is as good as it ever was. The noisy Irish bar has been replaced with a lounge-y place (great for working during the day). The room was nice -- fancy tv, a walk-in shower, kiehls toiletries, comfy bed, decent free wifi, etc.
No complaints on noise from neighbors or the street (we were on the 5th floor, in a corner).
I'd go back.
Fabulous location. Nice renovation. Some street noise.

This hotel is newly renovated. Our family stayed there the week after the hotel reopened. The rooms are a bit small but everything is new, with a fun, contemporary style. We found the beds to be extremely comfortable. During our visit, there was some street repair work that continued all night long directly outside our window. In addition, there was a plumbing leak above the main lobby which required the water to be shut off for several hours. We asked for and received a substantial discount on our bill to compensate for the inconvenience. The front desk was very apologetic. Our son left an important keepsake in the room. We were impressed when the hotel contacted us and mailed it to our home. The location directly on Dupont Circle cannot be beat. After a long day of touring, it has a lively, but neighborhood feeling at night. Lots of restaurants. However, be prepared to hear traffic noise from some of the hotel rooms. This is the only real negative. Otherwise, we highly recommend.
Great Location

Great Value for the location-a block away from the Metro-didn't use the car our entire stay! Dupont Circle is a great area to walk around at night and plenty of places to eat-Starbucks right across the street for your morning coffee! Parking is a bit expensive but expected that in this area of town. Small room but you don't spend much time there- great bathroom and television! Very comfortable beds-we had two doubles! Picked it based on the other reviews and we had no regrets-staff was very nice and helpful!

hotel near Dupont Circle

Hi,
From reading the posts, it sounds like Dupont Circle is a good location. Is there a way I can identify hotels in this area, or could you suggest some hotels in the area? I have 3 children and we want to go to the Smithsonian and Zoo. Will we be able to get around easily? Thanks

DuPont Circle area is a great one to stay in. It's easy getting around using the Metro.. there's a stop right there. A few years ago, we stayed at a Marriott right down the street.. think it was P Street, but I'm not sure. They served a great breakfast, and it was a nice hotel for the money. There are lots in that area.

DuPont circle is a great location. Unlike many other sections of town, the area doesn't die after 6 pm; it comes alive! Lots of good restaurants. Shops of all sorts. Great bookstore/cafe is Kramerbooks. We usually stay at the Jurys Washington Hotel right on the circle but there seems to be many places (eg Best Western) within a few blocks of the Metro station. When our daughter was younger she loved to ride the escalator down into the Metro because it is so long and steep and seemed to her like entering some dark mysterious fantasy place. Check the Washington Post website for its travel info - very comprehensive.

We stayed at the Hilton just up from Dupont Circle. It's a great area, with lots of very nice Restaurants and a Metro station right in the centre. I'd definitely stay in that area again.

Hi. I stayed twice at the Courtyard by Marriott on Embassy Row and a couple of blocks from Dupont Circle. It is an excellent and affordable hotel in a great location. You may want to check a nearby Residence Inn by Marriott which may be very convenient for families with kids as you can rent a 2 room appartment. Good luck.

Dupont is a great area -- very diverse and lively. Do be aware that it is also a very gay-friendly place -- just FYI. The Metro will take you around the city quite easily from there. Their website (www.wmata.com) is great. You can also try www.stationmasters.com for details of the neighborhoods around Metro stations. Don't miss the decorated panda sculptures around town!
Interesting tidbit about Metro escalators . . take a look at the walls next to them as you go up or down. You'll see big, obvious "joints" between sections of concrete that go perpendicular to the ground level. But look closer and you'll see the *real* joints -- that run perpendicular to the escalator's slant. They covered those and put in the fake ones so people wouldn't get disoriented . . .
