    Sleepless Night

I don't understand the reviews that say outstanding or loved it!!!
I'm not going to write about all the many things that were lacking, but I will summarize to truly help travelers.
My post is to help you before you make your "non-refundable" reservation.
Unsatisfactory service as with many places, only gets you an I'm sorry and little else.
1.) the pictures are very misleading, all rooms do not look like this and you cannot experience the musty smell via a picture.
2.) I've seen stated various times for breakfast and coffee, including management stating earlier times, But when your there and they tell you noone is at the desk to ask until 8a.m., it's too late.
Also, groundskeeper, told me breakfast is not served till 8a.m. which I found out 1st hand.
3.) If I were to give advice to you as a friend, I would say, do your homework and definitely look at other local places to stay and eat!
4.) reviews are opinions and I can tell you, the people who post on here were the same ones on a beautiful day with their heads buried in a paperback and must also wake up late. If this is you and you don't mind Old, not quaint furniture, no air conditioning, and a window fan to hear the road noise, which by the way is 20 feet from the front. No elevator and lots of stairs. This might be for you. But you may find that elsewhere at a lower price without someone telling you it's quaint.
Good luck travelers, I wish someone had told me all this before I arrived.

Unique Quality: Nice pond and waterfall

Travel Tips for Ashford

The moment you enter, this...

by SnowAngel

The moment you enter, this vast wonder of nature begins to work on all of your senses. Trees that are hundreds of years old tower above you while the foliage is so lush and green it takes you back to a time when there was nothing but beauty and you can only stand in awe. When you visit Mt. Rainier make sure you stop to enjoy the view of the multitude of waterfalls. Most are easily accessible. Hike up as far as you can go. There is a trail that most people take that leads up from the observatory, it is paved and is fairly easy no matter what your physical ability is. If you prefer the non touristy hike then take advantage of the beautiful trails that are nestled in the park. The morning after we arrived and set up camp my daughter stepped out of the tent and saw the park in all its glory for the first time. With the first break of sunrays shining on what appeared to her to be the most beautiful thing she'd ever seen, undisturbed nature in all its glory. The look on her face was nothing less than priceless.

Packing List

by SnowAngel

If you're backpacking and hiking pack light. But include the items listed below. Buy your food prior to reaching the site. The cost of consumables increases rather dramatically the closer you get to the park. If you're visiting during the winter months bring good hiking shoes or snow boots with excellent tread. Warm clothes are a must and if your camping make sure you have sufficient blankets to keep you warm. Shorts are recommended for summer time and at least two pairs of pants because the night air in the mountains is a lot cooler. Make sure you bring a gortex or rain coat of some sort. Gortex's usually come with a liner so you can use it as a warm coat as well. Always bring a first aid kit. If your camping there isn't any medical facility readily available for you. Bring sun screen for summer. Most of the pictures I have posted were taken with a 'plain jane' 35mm. You don't have to be an expert or have fancy equipment to get awesome pictures here. Camping: sleeping bags are a must! Extra warm bedding is recommended even in summer and some camp sites are really rocky, so if you need a little more comfort invest in an air bed. Get firewood, before you get here if you can, if not, wood and kindling can be purchased at each campsite for approximately $10 US for a bundle of wood and $5 for kindling. Just a tip: If you plan to visit the park more than once, or if you have more than one park to visit purchase the Parks annual pass. It's $25 US and it will cover all access fees for all of Washington's Parks. This pass is per car not per person. If you have more than one vehicle you will need to buy a pass per vehicle.

Packing List

by Mt-Rainier

Any type of luggage is fine but, a backpack is great. I would recommend coming prepaired for any kind of weather. You never know when it is going to drop below 30 degrees F. It could be 80 in Ashford and only 50 in Paradise. Dress in layers - Be prepaired!

Mt. Tahoma Trails

by Mt-Rainier

Mt. Tahoma Trails Association is probably best known for their 25 miles of groomed cross-country ski trails. Few people know that these same trails offer 50 miles of trails for mountain biking and horseback riding in the summer months. There are some awsome views of the surrounding mountains.
