Downtown Bellingham??

by 1jabbar

My family and I visit Beelingham frequently but only as far as Bellisfair mall and other Big Box mall stores near by. Is there an original downtown Bellingham? Can you help with directions from Bellisfair mall or there abouts? Thanks for the help.

Bellingham has a gorgeous Downtown area.
From Bells Fair, you basically just head south on Meridian (the street that Bells Fair is on) and you'll run right into it. It's quite large and there's plenty of parking.

Fairhaven is very nice too. You have to take the Chuckanut Drive also and stop for Oysters. Then stop in Edison for a bottle of local wine and some fresh bread. Continue south to buy fresh cheese curds off the farm and go for a picinic.

Travel Tips for Bellingham

Little Green Men?

by dragoness86

If you're visiting Western Washington University and happen to pass thru Haskell's Plaza, which is set up to look like the San Juan Island's, you will see several little green men and women statues around. Some might be sunning themselves, or carrying rocks. It's Western's student tradition to rub their heads or tickle their chins for good luck during finals week.

The Charter

by JoAnn&Chris

Charter a sailboat for a week or more. Cruise through the San Juan Islands where you will never be out of sight of land, and you are protected from the ocean waves and swells by Vancouver Island. You can drop your anchor in small private coves and catch crabs for dinner, stop in funcky little towns to shop, or go totally yachty in Roche Harbor. You do need to have sailing experience before you will be allowed to charter.

Take a drive through an Indian reservation

by cvilla007

For something off the beaten path, & to also get a good glimpse of the Native culture of Bellingham, take a drive through the Lummi Indian Nation, a small community of about 4,000 Native Americans. The main city is Marietta, which is not much more than houses & a few buildings. Warning: there are no touristy places to stop here. It's just a cool place to check out if you're interested. Besides, there's a casino up the road where it gets a lot more interesting!

Watch the Yachts & Fishing boats come & go

by Bellinghamster

Explore Squalicum Harbor. Check out the Fisherman's memorial in the park between the 2 parts of the harbor. Good views of downtown w/ the mountains in the background. Great Kite flying area.
Along with the yatchs, there are small weekend boats, and the harbor is a working harbor, so there is a large fishing fleet based in the harbor.

Visiting Historic Fairhaven!

by LeoM

Historic Fairhaven is a exciting part of Bellingham's Past.

Today, Bellingham is a lively place that has many things to do, watch an outdoor movie during the summer, drink some coffee with a friend, buy and read a book, or buy some beads and make a necklace. Maybe even take in a few drinks at social hour. Or even enjoy some great dining.
This would be a great place to enjoy watching the sunset by the bay, as the skies turn into a ruby color, as the sun ends it's day.
