Travel Tips for Chelan
Mighty, Columbia River of Pacific Northwest. USA
Near Lake Chelan, just a short 20-minute drive down below from the town of Chelan is the Mighty Columbia River. This river runs from the Rocky Mountain snow fields of British Columbia, Canada all the way south and to the Oregon border and then west past Portland, Oregon and on to the Pacific Ocean. There are many Hydro Electric Dams on the Columbia R. That supply this region with some of the cheapest Electricity in the USA as well as supplying the large cities to the west such as Seattle, WA.
This river is also the main rout for many spawning Salmon and Steel Head fish that travel to Alaska for their feeding grounds. Then return to migrate up the Columbia R. again and then up its smaller tributaries to spawn in the gentle gravel beds of the quiet headwater of many streams in the Cascade Mountains. Only for the eggs to hatch and the small fish to live there again and eventually travel down the streams and on to the Columbia River to the Pacific Ocean. Then travel on north to Alaska to feed and become large mature adults and then return to the Columbia R. again to spawn. This cycle has been going on for 100’s of thousands of years.
There are many Camping, RV and recreation parks on the Columbia R. for boating and fishing recreation for all. This picture is taken just ¼ mile down the road from my house. .
Come enjoy the majestic beauty and wonders of Washington State, The views are spectacular You won’t regret it at all.

City of Chelan, Washington USA and Lake Chelan
"Chelan, Washington state. USA"
Chelan is were I live (really I live 5 miles out of town) it is a small town of about 3,000 pop. With more thousands of people living around the shoreline and adjacent hills. This lake is one of the most purist and pristine lake with a town on its shores in the USA. The lake is located on the east slopes of the majestic Cascade Mountain range of the Pacific North West, in Washington state. Lake Chelan sets at an elevation of 1,100 Ft. And is 55 miles long and about ½ mile wide and about 350 feet below sea level in depth for a total of 1,350 Ft. Deep. Its waters are so clear you can see bottom to depths of 50 or more feet and is so clean that the city takes its municipal water from the lake.
Many tourists come her in the summer time from all over the world. There is a daily boat that services the upper end of the lake for the public and brings you to a small-populated Village with minimal accommodations. The Village is not accessible by road (boat or plain or foot only) from there you can hike deep into the Cascade Mountains on many well-maintained forest trails. With in those Mountains there are many pristine mountain streams and lakes with fish, as well as large glaciers, absolutely no one lives there, no roads no houses. In the wintertime these mountains are covered with snow and some peaks have snow all year round. Some years there are hydro boat races and Hang glider contest her.
Chelan had the Woman’s World Championship hang gliders contest here one year. The weather is for the most part sunny all summer and has a High Dessert like environment with very little rain in summer time.
This region is well known for it’s fine quality Apples, Pairs and Cherries orchards and some other fruits. Fruit that is sold all over the USA as well as the large portion of world exports.

An hour or two in Chelan, Washington
Chelan is a small town located on the south bank of Lake Chelan in the north-central region of Washington state. Located east of the Cascade mountains, Chelan has a big tourism industry, mostly because of vacationers who want to spend time along the lake. The weather is ideal as the climate is semi-arid. I remember my uncle always talking about taking his family to Lake Chelan. It was nice to finally put a picture to the name!
One thing we learned about Chelan was that it's home to the state's apple industry. The town seemed to be so proud of its apple heritage - many stores seemed to play up the apple theme. Apple sauce, apple cookbooks, fresh apple juice, apple candies, apple decorations, apple t-shirts - you name it, and they had it.
In the summer of 1997 my family spent a week touring the Washington state Cascades, and with that we passed through Chelan on the eastern side of the mountain range. While we didn't spend more than 2 hours in Chelan, we did manage to take in the town's atmopshere and capture it on film.
