The Murals
by JetlagCity
I really enjoy walking around and looking at all the building murals - I guess that's the obvious thing to do here! They certainly do remind me of being in Southern Germany. Most have a Bavarian theme, but I'm not sure if this one with all the animals would be considered Bavarian or not. It's my favorite, nevertheless. A little different than the other ones...
Cross-Country Skiing at Icicle Creek
by JetlagCity
Icicle Creek is a very picturesque and pleasant area to ski in, just 3 miles south of town. The 8 km. of trails here are rated easy, groomed daily, and are a series of loops meandering around the creek. Right next to them are the golf course trails, rated medium. There are medium and difficult cross-country trails around the downhill ski area, too - Leavenworth has a total of 26 km. of groomed cross-country ski trails within 3 miles of town.
There's also a very small downhill ski area and a ski jump just outside of town in the other direction, but I haven't checked these out yet. Gotta see that ski jumping someday! There are several places to rent skiis in town:
Der Sportsmann (509) 548-5623
Leavenworth Mountain Sports (509) 548-7864
Leavenworth Outfitters Outdoor Center (509) 548-0368
Bavarian Clothing Company
by Albernfrau
This store is very interesting. They carry traditional Bavarian clothing. They seemed to be the only store in town that did. I asked lots of the storeskeepers in Leavenworth where they got their uniforms/Bavarian clothing and they all said this store. This prices are steep. They carry women's, men's and children's traditonal clothing. They have both new and used clothes for sale. The used clothing is significantly cheaper. The store also carries beautiful handpainted pottery - see my pottery shopping tip; German CDs and hats.
King Ludwig's Restaurant
by Albernfrau
If we had one more night in Leavenworth we would have eaten here. We peeked in and it looked really traditional. We were intrigued that they had music and dancing on a wood dance floor on the weekends. I would definitely give this a try in addition to Andreas Keller (where we went) to have an authentic Bavarian/Hungarian dining experience.
Buy nativity sets made by Peruvian women

I found some unique Christmas items from skimming one Christmas store from another. This store is kind of difficult to spot since the sign is not big to see and it is located on the second floor of one of the buildings at the Front Street. The name of the store is Jubillee Global Gifts. It has the most beautiful handcrafted items made by people around the globe! These crafts are handmade from economic co-ops in poor communities around the world.
