Mt. Baker Lodging, Inc.: Our recent stay in Mt. Baker!
Boy, that last dude must never have actually came to Mt. Baker! Either he was smoking too much hooch, or he had his eyes closed when he came through. There are absolutely NO hotels or motels in the Mt. Baker area. There are some vacation rentals, but it is really wise to make advance reservations before you get there, or you may end up without a place to stay! We listened to his advise, and came up figuring that we could just drop-in in one of the "dozen or so motels" that he describes, only to find NOTHING of the sort! Fortunately, we ran into a local who suggested contacting Mt. Baker Lodging (1-800-709-7669). They appear to be the only lodging with an actual office (storefront) along the Mt. Baker Highway! We found them to be very accommodating and they permit last-minute (same day) 1-night stays in their array of private cabins and condos. We were very pleased with their accommodations and will definitely return. Here's their web address: http://www.mtbakerlodging.com . Penny & Arran Covington

motels near Mt. Baker: Not the most accomodating area
Baker is relatively close to Bellingham and if you are not from the area, I strongly recommend staying there... bellingham is a good sized city with every type of hotel, motel, B&B, and Inn you could want... the longest it has taken me to get to the ski area from the city is 75 minutes but that was because i was stuck behind a person who didnt know how to drive in the snow.. usually it is under an hour to get there, and the scenery along the way makes the trip go by even quicker.. however if you dont mind spending over $100/night on less than luxury motels, there are a dozen or so tiny motels scattered around the tiny town of Glacier which is just over 20 minutes from Baker...
Unique Quality: reservations are rarely needed since Baker is hardly ever packed with people but you should make them just in case...
