I did not stay at this hotel, though the location and building were interesting. It is located in one of Port Townsend's old downtown buildings, and pretty much sits in the middle of the core of the downtown area.
Despite the name of the hotel (which sounds like everything would be severely overly expensive) the rooms are quite a bit less expensive than in a few of the bed and breakfast houses further up the hill.
The building was contructed in 1889, and had rooms for rent as part of its original plan. Over the years it was used for offices, a brothel, and a number of other uses. It was the subject of one of the early Port Townsend renovation efforts, running from 1977 to 1984.
Unique Quality: The cheapest rooms share a bathroom across the hallway from the bed room. There is a huge variance in price between the cheapest rooms at off-peak season and the most expensive rooms at peak season. The room rate price I selected is only based on a guess of an average price. Off-peak cheap rooms can go for as little as $59 a night.
Wireless internet is included in the price.
Seasonal rates for the off-season significantly recude the price per room.
The most expensive rooms are the corner rooms that feature a full view of the bay.
Directions: Corner of Tyler Street and Water street. Just keep following the main streets. Most bus routes serve this area of downtown Port Townsend.
Unique Quality: The three story brick Captain Tibbets Building was built in 1889 and has served many functions over the years - billiard hall, saloon, theater, grocery store, apartment house, brothel. A near decade-long restoration process, beginning in 1976, established the Palace Hotel, which maintains 16 rooms on the upper two floors. The rooms mostly have private baths with a few also with mini-kitchen facilities. The ceilings soar 14 feet high with tall windows and antique furnishings to add to the ambiance. Breakfast is delivered to you door in the morning. This is truly a great place to stay while experiencing Port Townsend - which lies directly out you front door. Reservations would be a very good idea for the weekend and in the summer./
Directions: From the ferry landing, turn right and the Hotel is down about 100 meters on the left side of the street. Off street parking is included wtih your room. Rooms are on teh second and third floors.
