not so racially diverse.

seattle is not very racially diverse when compared to other US cities.
for a european it's still quite multicultural though and you don't need to worry that it's all beavis and butthead there.
as the photo shows there are some racially mixed hot chicks to be found there too :O) hot chicks.
You must go to the downtown...

You must go to the downtown piers and in and around where the aquarium is. There is a lot of shops, restaurants, baseball and football teams that play around there. My fondest memory of Seattle is just talking in the sights. It's just amazing looking at the arcitecture.
a way of making you feel like you're home: friends
by richiecdisc
We had come to Seattle from Mount Rainier National Park where heavy winter snow accumulation and late snow melt combined to thwart our best efforts to return to the wilderness. We managed only one night backpacking and left the park with our tails between our legs. The plan now was to soothe our bruised egos in Seattle and march into Olympic National Park ready to conquer. All we needed was a comfortable place from which to do it all. A cheap motel would do in a pinch but really there's no place like home.
The words “feel free” were uttered matter-of-factly and there was no doubt of their sincerity. For three days we did just that, soaking up Seattle's caffeine infused culture, sampling the city's fine brews, and getting reacquainted with friends over many great meals.
Olympic called us and with rejuvenated souls we went there to topple all that we had done so far in the backpacking world. It would have been hard to leave if we were not going home. It may not have been our real home but real friends have a way of making you feel that way and in Seattle, we know we have just that.
Earthquake

Missing the earthquake. I was in Colorado on a business trip (the story of my life), and I missed the earthquake that hit Seattle in February, 2001. Luckily, this was pretty much the extent of the damage in my apartment:
The BEST UW Coffee
by zoegoddess
So you are from out of town and you are visiting the lovely University of Washington Seattle campus, but where to go for some great coffee? Definitely skip the Tully's scattered around in campus buildings and go to the little independent coffee spots instead. My suggestions:
*Design Coffee in Gould Hall (across the street from the "main campus" area, located on 15th NE & 40th) serves wonderfully smooth coffee by Caffe Vita and the baristas are very friendly. Not sure what hours are during fall-spring. This coffee shop has been run by the Architecture program for over 20 years and prides itself on being independent from the UW's Housing and Food services...and net profits also go towards funding lectures and other programs for the school.
*Parnassus Cafe & Art Gallery located in the basement of the Art building (northern part of the Quad). Not only is this place run by students, but the net profits go TO students in the art department in the form of fabulous scholarships. Open (fall-spring) Mon-Thur 8:15am - 4pm, Friday 8:15am - 2pm.
TA DA! Two of my favorite coffee joints on campus. Hope you enjoy them as much as I did. Oh, and try to tip generously because most students tend to skimp...ya know, college is already expensive enough. :-)
