savor seattle
by EllenH
I looked at trip advisor and this is the number one thing to do on their site, when I looked it up on vt under keywords it brings up 8600 results because of the world seattle. SO, anyone done this tour of pike market? According to trip advisor everyone thinks it is worth the money. But I trust my fellow vter's more.

Thanks Larry, I was there many years ago on my own but all the reviews on TA say it is awesome. Wanted to hear from VT crowd though because the tickets are cheaper online lol cheapskate I am. $37 and change for 2 hour tour with around 28 samples of all kinds of food.

Ellen, It sounds good with all the samples, Are you sure it is around 28 samples? You could do it on your own, again, but some things are better with a guide that hits the main sights and then afterwards you can relax and go at your own pace. What a great dilemma.

we only have a few days, what the hell? Doing the underground tour for sure. This from someone who has never done ANY tours but doing the golden circle tour in Iceland just before (and meeting up with Charles and Nathalie!) After the tour, would not think of making Charlie go on a tour!!!

I've not done that particular tour, but I agree that Pike Place Market is huge, and can be a difficult place to find your way around in if you hit it in peak traffic season.
They have also had recent construction projects in the market, and we can hope that a guide would be able to find their way around the mess better.
But, I did just fine on my own for my own satisfaction.

I would do it! We haven't done the one in Seattle, but did one in Portland Oregon. It was fun, entertaining and worth having the guide show us the spots. It was a great way to see our way around, and then we were able to backtrack and go to the places we liked, and ones we saw that we didn't stop at.
Travel Tips for Seattle
Seemed Close Enough To Touch

Unexpected travel revelations are the best. We were walking around Magnolia Park just off the tip of Magnolia Point and were look back toward the city of Seattle. If was a pretty hazy morning but it was trying to clear when suddenly we realized that what we were seeing was Mount Rainier exposing itself through the cloud horizon. While about 110 miles away the mountain's 14,410 foot elevation made it seem to appear to be just on the other side of the bay...spectacular!

Go to Pike Place Market. Take a ride around Olympic National Park and spend a couple of days in the San Juan Islands. My fondest memory isn't actually in Seattle it is on San Juan Island. I was sitting on a rock jetty at Lime Kiln Light and an Orca Whale swam right past me. I looked right in her eye. I cried.
See the city skyline from a boat.

The best view of Seattle is from a boat. This is me wearing my new coat bought in Alaska. But this day was hot and sunny.
Great view to be had from the boat.

If your landing path is from the north side, you will be able to see Boeing Field. This is where Boeing delivers most of the commercial airliners. On the low right coner, that is the first 747 airplane Boeing built. It is now on static display near the Museum of Flight.
What Seattlites do and don't (mostly)
by NWtipper
Seattlites do:
Read a lot.
Love their coffee. And local microbrews.
Tend to keep to themselves, or their small circle of friends.
Behave courteously and politely to strangers.
Always wait for walk signals to cross the street.
Wave for the other driver to go first.
Move at a slower pace than most big city dwellers.
Love art and cultural, intellectual pursuits.
Enjoy all manner of outdoor activities.
Support liberal causes.
Fiercely defend their neighborhoods.
Fiercely defend the environment.
Seattlites don't:
Wear fur.
Use umbrellas. That's what Gore-Tex is for.
Like Californians. At least those that move in.
Display abundant wealth.
Push to the front of lines.
Make a public scene.
Tolerate obnoxious loudmouths.
Drive very well. At all. Especially if it is raining. Or the sun is out.
Go out of their way to make friends with strangers.
Like change.
