You can take an AMTRAK train from Seattle to Emeryville, California which is a suburb of San Francisco. The trip will take almost a full day at a cost of a little under $200. The air flights from Seattle to San Francisco can be as low as $125 and get there in under 2 hours. If you want to take the train you can check out www.amtrak.com

Yes, it's possible. There are several destination stations in SF. Trip takes about 23 hours and costs approx. $100. You can get further info at www.amtrak.com. Happy Travels!

Yeah, mine was a week from today, but like any other mode of travel the farther out you can get your tickets the cheaper they will be. Send some of that warmth from your "neck of the woods" to Chicago. Minus 15C today, although the sun is shining brightly.

This question gave me some motivation to write down all the experiences I have had visiting King Street Station by arriving by train in Seattle and put them into a VirtualTourist tip:

Please let me know what you think so that I can improve it.

My biggest lack of information is how to get to the SoundTransit part of the station. Not even SoundTransit tells you how to do that on their web site - at least not that I have been able to find.

Although the train goes to Emeryville, Amtrak has a bus that will take you to downtown SF.

Travel Tips for Seattle

Watch fish being tossed around

by meteorologist1

At Pike Place Market you can see something special: Fish being tossed around. Lots of entertainment is created when large fish, probably at least 10 pounds each, fly through the air and land in the butcher's hands. But watch out! Don't be surprised to have a fish land on your face or shoulder!

Wander the streets of downtown. There are alot of small shops with wonderful things to buy. Watch out for the tourist stores....unless you want nicknacks. Going to the Pike Place Market and people watching, lots of activity. Great place to get good food. If you decide to walk the small shops and your hungry just follow your nose to the little cafe that sells the best cinnamon rolls in the world.

See the Experience Music Project.
I didn't bother going in (ok ok I admit I turned up too early before they opened).
Just wandering around admiring Gehry's jaw dropping design was enough. The crab dinner .. mmmmmmmmmm .. with a glass of chilled Californian Chardonnay.

Seattle Police

by jamiesno

Here in this tip I just wanted to show a picture of a Seattle police officer on his bike. Seattle was one of the first cities to have officers patrol on a pedal bike. I walked the downtown area of Seattle a lot and they were certainly visable on a regular basis. Either on bike, on foot or patrol cars. A couple of times they were active ushering along people that were just loitering around heavily used public areas.

When in Seattle...do as we do...DRINK COFFEE!

by Brehone

Until I moved to Seattle I thought coffee was just something you drank in the morning or perhaps when entertaining you would serve with dessert. However, in Seattle coffee is something you drink all day long in many forms: Tall Non-fat Rasberry Mocha, Grande Skinny Latte, Double Tall Non Fat Caramel Frappaccino. Aahhhh.... to drink coffee is to truly learn a whole new language!

As a true Seattlite, my favorite is Starbucks which happens to be on practically every corner.
