The restorers did an excellent job of decorating the hotel in the colours, materials and appearance of its glory days, some 90 years ago.

It is a true masterpiece in the finish and style of the early 1900's.

John A. Finch Arboretum

The Arboretum is on the west side of Spokane and proved to be a delightful place to visit. It was May and many of the shrubs were in blossom. Here are several small Hawthorn trees in blossom, from a delicate pink to a deeper red.

The Arboretum covers 65 acres and was started in 1907. There are over 200 labelled trees and shrubs representing 600 species.

There is an excellent leaflet available to those making a self guided tour. There is no web site given but a phone number is shown below.

A wannabee Argentine

There is nothing argentine about this place. The owner has an interest in Argentina and thus the name. This is a local joint, with a few argentine wines thrown and not even the best of its Mendoza selections. Norton mainly.
But the lady behind the bar was so friendly. She unflinchingly directed us to Vien Dong Restaurant when we said we wanted to eat viet food.
genuinely friendly person Had a glass of Norton Chardonnay. Empanadas were available but was not in a mood to try them. Bit disappointed as I had thought I would encounter something argentina. Even the music was not argentine, but very local

Go east to see the University across the river.

The pathway system continues from the downtown to the east. A walk or bike ride takes you to a point opposite Gonzaga university. There are bridges to cross the river and return along the north side of the river.

All the road access bridges to downtown cross above the pathway system, so no need to have to cross busy streets.

Our tourist motto is "near nature, near perfect", but spend a week here and you will understand why I say "near nothing, near comatose".....
