Hope you like coffee!
by traowyn
There are so many places at which a traveler can get a good latte in Spokane. I know Spokane isn't Seattle, but bear with me. There are definitely some folks in town who have some skill with coffee. I would highly suggest a visit to a Thomas Hammer Coffeeshop while in Spokane. There are a number of locations -- downtown as well as in the Northtown Mall. Check out their website at hammercoffee.com for more information! Try a "Velvet Hammer!"
Ninemile Falls
by GuthrieColin
The Ninemile Hydroelectric Dam is one of 5 dams that compose the Spokane River Project. It was constructed between 1906 and 1908. The dam is 58 feet (17 m) tall and allows the water to flow over its top in a very man made looking waterfall.
The surrounding scenery, however, has made the site very appealing and the reservoir behind its face is used for recreation by many. Surrounding the Ninemile Reservoir is Riverside State Park which features hiking trails and camping as well as fishing and boating.
Directions:
From I-90 take the Maple Street exit 280 and follow about 5 miles then turn left on WA-291 (Labled W Francis Ave). After 6 miles follow right on N 9 Mile Road. 2 miles later turn left on w Charles Rd. Look to your left over bridge.
Mom & Pop Mexican
by JessieLang about Hacienda Las Flores
Hacienda Las Flores is a family-run restaurant east of downtown. It isn't anything fancy, but the food is very good. The owners will be in there working, and the baby might be tucked into a corner.
If you find yourself in this neighborhood, it's worth a try.
Riverfront Park--The Fountain
by JessieLang
The Riverfront Park Rotary Fountain is a popular attraction for beating the Summer heat, and it is usually full of giggling children. Harold Balazs is the artist.
The fountain has 5 stainless steel columns that are 24 feet tall. These support a 30- foot diameter ring containing 40 overhead jets. The jets spray towards the middle of the fountain producing a dome of water and a waterfall in the fountain's center. Eight geysers shoot water upwards.
The fountain also has dozens of mist jets, and the 5 boulders have jets that spray sideways. To conserve water, the fountain water is filtered and recirculated.
The fountain operates from Spring to Fall, 6am to midnight.
Spokane - a nice place to visit!

"Cat Tails Zoological Park"
The Cat Tails Zoological Park was one highlight of our trip to Spokane. They house exotic and wild animals (the big cats) that were once house pets. Two of their four tigers cubs went for a walk (on a leash of course), while we were there. You could watch through a roped-off area, as the tiger cubs climbed rock walls and scampered past.
"Riverfront Park"
Scenic park in the heart of Spokane. It's fun to stroll around past the waterfalls and along the riverfront. Take the tram. It stops right over the falls. Also a train takes you on a leisurely ride around the park. Plan to spend several hours. There's a small amusement park as well and an IMAX Theatre. Spokane was the site of the 1974 World's Fair and there are many reminders in the park of the fair.
