Spokane north

by katevesco

We are flying into Spokane from Buffalo. Our final destination is Salmo BC. There is a bus but it takes way to long ( we are seniors). My son lives in Salmo and he will meet us but he cannot get away from work until after our flight arrives. It takes him 3 hours from Salmo to Spokane if there are no hold-ups at the border. We are trying to find a way to meet him half way. Is there bus transportation from Spokane going north towards Bonners Ferry:Rossland or Waterton Lakes? Anywhere up those highways would suit us perfectly. Any suggestions for us?
Thank you for your time,
Kate

Re: Spokane north

There's not too much that serves that part of Washington. There is east-west service of various types, and a little going south, but very little to the north.

There are some special needs transport services operating in that area
http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/choices/Eastern/
but not anything that is a general ticket transport.

There is noise about getting bus service up to Colville by sometime this summer, but there have been a bunch of budget cuts in the transportation budget too. I've not seen much news recently on the goings on up there. This newspaper article from March of 2010 is the most recent thing I can find:

There appear to be several places that offer Nelson, BC and surrounding areas to Spokane airport shuttles, but they are up in the $425 per person range, and being aimed at the BC market probably don't accept intermediate destination passengers.

You might try the various taxi services in the Spokane area that serve the airport. One of them might operate a Colville or similar destination airport shuttle.

Silver Mountain

by lar-n-me

This multi-event mountain has the world's longest gondola. It has great skiing in the winter, and in the summer there's concerts held at the top of the mountain. There's scrumptious restaurants and good bars to hang out at at the bottom of the mountain, (that is, if you didn't get enough fun in after spending time in the lodge at the top).

Located 1/4-mile off I-90, a 1 hour drive from Spokane.

Arbor Crest Winery

by lar-n-me

Arbor Crest Winery
This place is beautiful and romantic. Larry and I went here on a regular basis in the summer.
And more than anything, this place has history you wouldn't believe. Before becoming the winery, it was the house of the very wealthy Royal Riblet. (Next time you're skiing, check out the pillars on the lift as your passing them, (you know, the ones that everyone slaps stickers on as you're going up the mountain) there's a good chance you'll see the name Riblet on them, as it was Royal's invention and success) At the time he built his mansion, there was basically nothing below him in sight, except the private gondola he had built to get up to his mansion and the traintrack and river below. Now, the view is engulfed by Spokane Valley's businesses and homes.
Wines offered sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, grand cepage, cab/merlot, cabernet franc, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, johannisberg riesling, muscatt canelli and semillon

Riverfront Park

by lar-n-me

Located in downtown Spokane and was the site of Expo '74 World's Fair. The park offers a Dragon Coaster, Ferris Wheel, Bumper Cars, and a Seasonal Ice Skating Rink. Also a full schedule of family entertainment and events such as the Bloomsday Post-Race Celebration, Hoopfest, the IMAX Film Festival, Spokane Music Festival, Pig-Out in the Park, Restaurant Fair, Pow Wow, New Years Eve Celebration, plus many outdoor concerts & other community activities.

The gondola ride takes you directly over the falls.
