We stayed at this newer hotel for several days while riding the hatfield-mccoy riding trails. This was the nicest best western hotel I've stayed at east of colorado. Our room, a ground floor room, was large, comfortable, higher than normal ceiling, and we slept like a rock. I think it is because the clean, fresh air there that is super-oxygenated from the steep, hardwood tree covered hills

    Highly recommended.

Large lot in front for truck with ATV trailer if needed. It's the best hotel in Logan County.

Unique Quality: 15 minutes from 2 Hatfield-Mccoy trail entrances. Near many restaurant. 5 minutes to a Superwalmart and the new (Fall 2006) 8 screen movie complex. Nelson family diner in Chapmanville has great breakfasts too - fried apples!

6 minutes from Logan State Park. Home to PICKIN IN THE PARK - every Thursday at 6pm. Open air jam session (bluegrass, old country, new country) with local and traveling talent. BYOBanjo, Mandolin, Guitar, Bass, Harmonica, jug, washboard. 25-100 people show up every week to listen to 10-25 performers. They have an enclosed shelter during cold / winter months. Access to Pickin in the Park is best from the Rt.10 entrance. Tell them TONY from FLORIDA sent you for the best seats. The best in acoustic traditional music.

For rural traditional music -- on Friday and Saturday nights 7pm-11pm 15 minutes away is the Old Lake Elementary School, which is being converted into an Opry House. The 350 capacity building has an old cabin setting in the auditorium. Local artist, visionary, and carpenter, George Fry, selectively harvested pine trees in the front of the old school and milled the wood himself to build the stage. He is a driving force in the community, rebuilding the town from the roots up. Those roots are bluegrass. When a child, George remembers how Flatt and Scruggs stayed with his family when visiting the Chapmanville area and performing. George, his family, and other local families are faithfully carrying on the tradition. As George pointed out once -- the grand ole opry actually did start in West Virgina (Wheeling) before it moved down river to Nashville. You never know which past or future big name performer will show up to play at Lake, or Delbarton, or Pickin in the Park - it's a pleasant surprise, week after week. Directions to Lake: Exit 119 at Garrett's Fork Road heading east. When it dead ends into Mill Creek turn LEFT and go about 4 miles. Lake is about 7 miles from 119 in all.

Directions: 45 minutes south from Charleston on US 119 (a divided four lane, 65mph highway). This road is locally referred to as coridor G.
