Please Help

Hello,
I need help bad! I'm a Army Recruiter moving to Charleston. We will be in town this week, I'm gonna have to get a motel for a week or so till we find a house. We need to find a cheap motel or hotel, that is cheap cause we are gonna have to stay for a week maybe 2. I would like to know the cheapest motel in town! Or closer enough to drive to South Charleston. It doesnt have to be the nicest place. I'm just trying to avoid paying tons of money! If you locals know of some places please reply soon...

I don't have any personal knowledge of the area, but I poked around on the Net a bit, and it looks as though there are some cheap motels in the area, including Days Inn, Knights Inn, Motel 6, Super 8, and Budget Host Inn. They might also give you a special rate because you're staying longer.

Site of Historic Fort Lee

What is today downtown Charleston was originally the site of Fort Lee, a western frontier outpost guarding settlers against the Indians. It was built on the banks of the Kanawha River in 1788, and named for General Lighthorse Harry Lee, one of George Washington's most trusted officers. Later Lee became the governor of Virginia, of which West Virginia was then a part. In this photo you will notice the paved hike/bike trail on two levels, both above and below the levee. My favorite memory on two different trips to Charleston is taking a long walk along this pathway, which stretches for miles beside the beautiful Charleston riverfront.

The Governor's Mansion

This large home, officially named "The Executive Mansion", is the official residence of the Governor of the state of West Virginia and his family. The mansion, designed by local architect Walter Martens, overlooks the Kanawha River and is adjacent to the state Capitol Building. It has 30 rooms and was completed in 1925.
Guided tours are available, which take visitors through the public rooms on the ground floor.
Walk along the Kanawha River

We took a walk along the Kanawha River near the capitol building. It was a nice relaxing way to get some exercise while in Charleston. The river in that section of the city is calm, with pleasant views. Howver, we did have some excitement while we were walking, as a paddlewheel riverboat passed us by.
