The Inn at Snowshoe: Budget-Friendly Lodging at Snowshoe

For a budget-friendly, but still nice stay at Snowshoe, consider the Inn at Snowshoe at the base of the mountain about 6 miles away from the main skiing area. There are shuttles that run between the Inn and The Village/Silver Creek at the top of the mountain, so staying at the bottom isn't a problem (see my tip on Shuttles for more information). In fact, it's kind of nice to not have to drive up the mountain in poor weather - let the experienced shuttle drivers handle that. And they keep to the schedule quite well so no long waits if you know the schedule. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful and the Inn has most amenities - there is a restaurant, bar, and ski shop. The WiFi in the hotel, however, is rather poor. No reception in the rooms, so you have to go to the lobby to get signal. Also, note that there is pretty much no cell phone reception (AT&T supposedly has some reception although its unreliable) anywhere, since all of Pocahontas County is a federal quiet zone due to the nearby National Radio Astronomy Observatory. Complimentary breakfast buffet was quite good and there was a good selection of warm and cold food available. Most importantly, there's also a pool and two hot tubs - great after a chilly day of skiing to relax and warm up. The hot tubs are directly adjacent to the pool, so if you get overheated, you can jump right in the pool, cool off for a bit, then get back in the hot tub to warm back up, all without ever getting out of the water. All of this for quite a bit less than what it costs to stay at the top of the mountain. We plan to come back and stay here again. My only complaint is that there was no refrigerator or safe in the room so its hard to save money on food by bringing your own.
