Twin Falls Cottages: Less kExpensive than a Time-Share
In addition to the lodge, Twin Falls Resort State Park has 14 secluded cottages available for rent. The photo is of the one we stayed at on our recent visit to Twin Falls.
The cottages, scattered along a heavily wooded ridge, all have stone fireplaces with wood provided, electric heat, and televisions. They come fully equipped for housekeeping with linens, cookware, dishes and utensils. The cabins have two bedrooms, a living room, kitchen, bath, and a deck overlooking the woods in the back. A hiking trail leads through the woods from the cottage area to the lodge and swimming pool.
I'm not generally one to complain, but our cottage could have been a little better equipped in the cooking department, however we did find the essentials needed to cook one dinner which we enjoyed in our cabin. Also, the hardwood floor could have used a good cleaning and waxing, the furniture could have been a bit more comfortable, and there was a smell of woodsmoke from past fires in the fireplace. Although we found the facilities to be less than we would have desired, we still found them adequate for our two night stay.
I took note of the fact that our rental price was less than the cost of the annual maintainence fee on the last time-share resort Karen and I toured. And there was no initial long-term commitment and no exchange fee. In that regard, we consider state park cabins one of the most overlooked and underrated vacation facilities in America. It could be a great way for a family to enjoy an affordable resort vacation with all the comforts of home - depending on how comfortable your home is.
