Lake Geneva, So Close to Home
"A Perfect Day in Lake Geneva"
On Wednesday, July 29, 2009, my friend Mickey [Michelle] and I decided to drive to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, for the day. It was a picture-perfect day with sunshine, cool breezes, and mid 70's temperatures. The trip from Libertyville, Illinois, via Route 50 was rural and rustic in scenery.
Thank goodness we went during the week because in the summer, Lake Geneva is a magnet for family vacations throughout the area and as far away as New York. We were most impressed with the crystal clear water, the friendly locals, and the much improved offerings for tourists.
Chicagoans have summered in Lake Geneva since about 1836; thus, it has been dubbed as "The Newport of the West".
It's a fact that you won't run out of activities or good food when you visit.
There are numerous water sport activities; several different cruises to take; there's a 21-mile public path that encircles the shore of Lake Geneva; from experience, I know that it is a golfer's paradise [I've golfed at Grand geneva, Abbey Springs, and a few other close by]; concerts of Music by the Lake; great shopping to experience; a dip at the Lake Geneva Beach or in one of the pools of a hotel....the list is as endless as your imagination!
I've been in Lake Geneva many times over the years and will be adding more restaurants and hotels as soon as I find my information in some hidden file that I've saved.
