Prancing Carousels
We were so thrilled this year when we walked around Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and notices all the "Prancing Carousel" horses on display. Actually, there are 26 life-size horses who are accompanied by a carousel pole. They are placed throughout Lake Geneva at retail shops and lodgings. We found out, after the fact, that if you wish to have a complimentary map of all their locations with information about the artists, you just need to stop in area retailers or at the Lake Geneva Area Convention and Visitors Bureau.
These are such colorful and unique horses that they seem to prance away as though on a wonderful carousel. These horses were the "brainchild" of SMILES [Special Methods in Learning Equine Skills, Inc.]. They bill it as a "summer long public art fest". This organization is a non-profit organization that has served the community for 25 years as a therapeutic riding center for children and adults with disabilities.
I read that in 2008, SMILES had a successful "parade of ponies"; thus, they decided to have more ponies this year. At the end of this summer, these wonderful sculptures will be auctioned off, and proceeds will benefit SMILES's yearly operational costs.
I'll tell you for sure that these Prancing Carousels certainly brought smiles to Mickey and I the whole time we were in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin!
