In Madison you must visit the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings. Right downtown is the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center overlooking Lake Monona. This is a fabulous building and the tour is well worth it! Also in Madison and worth seeing is the Unitarian Meeting House near the end of the University of Wisconsin campus.
Nearby Madison, in Spring Green, is the Frank Lloyd Wrights estate, Taliesin East. Altough I haven't been able to see it yet I've heard it is a marvelous building.
In Madison, a drinking fountain is called a "bubbler."
Some people will refer to a traffic light as a "stop and go." This can be confusing when you are getting directions, because there is also a chain of convenience stores called Stop and Go.
Located on the near west side of Madison, just southwest of UW's Engineering campus, Monroe Street was one of my most favorite streets to drive through or stoll in. Monroe Street is dotted with upscale gift shops, art galleries, antique shops, interior design studios, women's boutiques, and other specialty shops. Most of these are locally-owned businesses. Monroe Street also offers a tremendous variety of restaurants including Mediterranean, Southwestern, Cajun, nouveau, deli, pizza, hamburgers, sandwiches and custard. There are also numerous coffee houses, a wine cafe, and a local tavern.
Dive Thai Food...mmmm
While this place looks like a dive greasy spoon, I am a constant customer due to its amazing food and portions. For the price, the food is absolutely amazing and the protions are I usually have enough to take home. Also, there are cheap lunch speacials between 11-1 which make it all the more affordable.
The only problem is that the owner, who usually works isn't the most friendly. She isn't rude, but doesn't really seem to care. There are no smiles or hello and, if you like a lot of water like me, ask for a pitcher when you order because you will never see her again. The lack of service is well worth the food which I have never had to wait long for.
Hours of Operation:
Monday To Friday
11:00Am To 10:00Pm
4:00Pm 10:00Pm The spicy plate is simply the best.
Be careful when specifying spiciness because, unlike some places, spicy does mean spicy. You can always add some of your own as all tables are equipped with red sauce.
Ive eaten here twice. The first, I really loved their Cuban sandwich and would go there often if it werent heavy in fattening ingredients and $9. the second time, I took my husband, they were playing a ballgame very loud, and we had the buffet. We told them we couldnt enjoy our meal with the sound so loud, but they said they had to accomodate their other customers. Neither of us was overly impressed with the buffet food. Cuban sandwich
