Several neighborhoods in Madison feature interesting older homes. I saw this one on the way back from the game and found it too interesting to pass by without taking its picture. I hope I get to go back sometime soon (maybe I'll wait for spring though haha) and explore more - it seems to have a lot more to offer than what I saw!
There's a 4 woman league of Roller Derby teams that play in Jan - June. It's not a joke, they really play tough. League name: Mad Rollin' Dolls.
They play at Fast Forward Roller Skating rink on the far west side of Madison. Games are two 16 minute halves. Each night they have on 2 games. Tickets right now are $10, with a percentage going for non-profit agencies. Fun, it usually sells out (800 people) but you might be able get one from someone trying to sell one. Starts at 7pm, over by 9:30pm usually, depending on how many fights there are.
Your ticket usually ges you into a nightclub downtown after the match, the High Noon for a 3 set bill. Sorry, just for viewing, unless you want to join a team.
Neighborhood bar that brings people to town. Sometimes charging a cover of 5 dollars, this bar is infamous for great varity of good music. From string emsombles, honk tonk, rock, you name it! Give them a call! None!
A dingy, yellow door leads downstairs to a really great restaurant, one of my favorites here. Someone from Africa moved here and started this as a food cart about 10 years ago. The food cart is still on the library mall on campus, but the portions are better in the restaurant. The last time I was there I had a peanut stew dish. It has other typical African food, and can be ordered spicy or not depending on your tongue.
I really liked the layout and design of this restaurant. Tequila on tap? Hmmm.....be careful with the tequila!
Had the blue margarita, FANTASTIC! Put plenty of alchohol in it and it just tasted really good. Restaurant is named after Frida a famous Mexican painter who died in 1954, we still do not understand the unibrows on the woman who was in the paintings? If someone can explain to me it would be great, the woman in the paintings looks really angry with her unibrow. Staff was nice, they seemed a little snobbish and pretentious for a Mexican restaurant. I had the pulled pork soft shell tacos with rice and beans and was quite satisfied with my meal, very flavorful. I also had the Blue House Margarita $5. My taco dinner was $10.95.
