Swimming indoors with children ?
by Pettine
Is there any nice place to go swimming indoors with young children (a public pool with a shallow area and playstuff for kids) ?

There's a nice indoor water park (Crawdaddy Cove) at the Holiday Inn with a shallow play area but you have to be a guest of the hotel to use it. I can't been able to locate any public facility with a play area for tiny kids. There's an outdoor public pool open in the summer but as you asked for indoors, I assume your visit is in the winter.

One of the Heights of Western Civilization

The beer sample tray at the Great Dane Brewpub!
I met VT member Sam Barnett and friends in Madison in early October 2005, and brave explorers that we are, we tackled the World Series of Beers at the Great Dane. What a beautiful range of beverages they feature! Everything from hoppy india ales to smooth germanic lagers to peppery dark stouts. Having your own beer festival in Madison is a good way to restore your faith in Western Civilization! (123 E. Doty, south of the Capitol dome)
Another VT meet-up occured here on a chilly Saturday in February 2007 with Tom of Madison. "Hurrah" for VT beer-drinkers!
Handmade Candles
by julieuzi
Check out the Candle Cocoon, llc for the most beautiful candles. They are handmade in the WI by the owner/operator Lyschel. She used pure ingredients...no carcinogens in HER wax or wicks. She develops her own fragrances to be special and exquisite.
The store has poor signage but shares a building with the easy-to-see Sushi Box.
I don't think I can pick...
by Kakunaa
I don't think I can pick one....Madison has more restaurants per capita than anywhere else in the country...some faves, though, are:
Vientiane
New Seoul Korean Restaurant
Biaggis
Glass Nickel and Pizza Extreme
i don't actually go out-out to eat very often...more for breakfast, and here's my recs on those:
Monty's Blue Plate
Come Back Inn (only on sundays)
Marigold (closed mondays)
well, since the fave breakfast is at the Inn...unique is that they play oldies all morning on Sunday, and there are beautiful hardwood floors, and it's amazingly calm considering that people party in there until bar time the night before...the contrast in atmospheres of the same place in such a short time is neat. Essen Haus/Come Back Inn are great for a friday night....one word: Boots currently, shrimp benedict for breakfast at the Come Back Inn
Vietnamese noodle soup and more
by latte18 about Nam's Noodle
Nam's Noodle is a restaurant owned by a friend of my friend. It started out as a Vietnamese noodle soup (pho) restaurant but the owner (who was from Hong Kong) decided to expand the menu to include dishes from other Asian countries. The result is imaginative fusion dishes that combines the best in Chinese and other Asian cooking. The restaurant had come far from its humble beginnings and was recently renovated to create a cafe-like atmosphere. Too bad though, the quality of the food can be a hit or a miss. The owner is the principal chef, but often times he relegated his duties to his subordinates. Thus, resulting in inconsistenties in the quality of food. To be safe, just order the Vietnamese Noodle Soup or the excellent vermicelli bowls and Indonesian fried rice dishes. Asian fusion dishes:
- South sea creamy fried rice
- Mango chicken platter
- Sliced beef with kangkong
- Indonesian fried rice dishes
- Vermicelli bowls
- Noodle soups
- Boneless chicken platter
- Vietnamese spring roll
