Unitarian Meeting House - Another View
by yooperprof
Al and I got a tour of the Meeting House from one of the church deacons. He told us that the congregation was very pleased with the design and quite happy with Wright's concepts. Apparently, there was none of the unhappiness which is felt bymany at the Wright-designed Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa - which you can see on my Milwaukee page.

Taliesen - Frank Lloyd Wrights home & office
Not in Madison, in Spring Green, about 35 miles west of here.
Famous architect. The house he lived in for 50 years or so, constantly changing it. Also, you can go to the Unitarian church on the west side of Madison right off University Avenue that he designed and attended I think. There is also a house in Middleton, just next to Middleton designed by him, it's the first Unison house ever built. There are a couple other ones he designed around town too.
Many different types of tours available...ranging from about $25-$60.
Budget Chinese Food
by latte18 about Hong Kong Wok
This was easily one of my most favorite restaurant in Madison. Hong Kong Wok serves inexpensive, no-frills but delicious Chinese food that are made to order, unlike other food court establishments. Located in the upscale Hilldale Mall, the eatery is popular with international students due to its mostly inexpensive offerings. The food court itself is bright, airy, and very clean and well maintained, a world's way from the International Food Court on University Ave that HK Wok used to occupy. The service from the sulky female owner leaves a lot to be desired though. HK crispy chicken, salt and pepper pork chop, beef with scrambled eggs.
True Mexican Food
by julieuzi about La Hacienda
La Hacienda always has a full parking lot...and with good reason. Their food is excellent, the service is fast, polite and unobtrusive and the cost is minimal.
The restuarant is well lit and clean. There is some outdoor seating available in the summer under umbrellas. No matter where you sit you can have a decent marg on the rocks or sangria and a never-ending basket of chips served with two fresh made salsas: tomato and tomatillo. Burrito Chico with Chorizo (for only $3.95!)
White Horse Inn
by Boozoo about White Horse Inn
At my choosing, we ate brunch at the White Horse Inn on Sunday - it was another in a series of good calls! The buffet is wide ranging and had breakfast dishes, cheese samplers, lunch items, salads, pastries, and desserts. While I can say that everything I tried was excellent, the pastries practically melt in your mouth! The ambience is definitely up-scale; we had champagne with our meal :-) There was even a jazz guitarist playing softly throughout the meal. Lest you think this is a $50/plate restaurant, think again! The total bill for both of us came to under $40!!! Definitely worth stopping in, you may need reservations depending on when you want to go.
