I kissed my two 18 year old daughters good-bye from NY this morning on their cross country trip for the summer. I had carefully booked rooms along the way. On the first night they stopped in Madison and were told that, because they were not 21, they could not have a room. Nowhere on the IHG website did it specify an age requirement. In fact, the fine print said occupants must be, "the minimum age of that hotel." Who knew??? I thought that we identified 18 year olds as adults in this country? Apparently not for the Holiday Inn in Madison as they turned my daughters away. When I called the front desk to explain, I was met with a stolid refusal. They turned them away. I am absolutely floored. I will never stay at a Holiday Inn again. They don't value customer service and they certainly don't value families. And, although my daughters are adults and can fend for themselves, I'm incensed with the fact that a "supposedly" family based chain would tell a mother that they didn't care that her children were homeless for the night!
