The weekly 'newspaper' that lists upcoming events, movies, shows, concerts, etc.. comes out on thursday afternoon. They're usually available in doorways, coffee shops, record stores, paper kiosks, etc...

If you're unfortunate enough to travel to Madison in the dead of winter during January till March then make sure you bring lots of heavy winter clothing, including gloves, hats/ear muffs, and boots. Early Spring and Late Fall present opportunities for period of rain showers, raincoats and umbrellas are a must if you want to keep yourself dry. During early summer, there are opportunities for thunderous thunderstorms during the afternoons so make sure you have an umbrella ready. The rest of the summer, the weather can be extra hot and humid, so light cotton clothing, shorts, and comfy footwear are recommended.
The U-Wisc has an arboretum on the south side of the city. It's 1300 acres, or 2 square miles big. There are 20 miles of trails.
There are prairies, forests, wetlands, a large collection of trees and shrubs. In the center is the McKay Visitor Center. part of it overlooks a big prairie9see photo) so you can just sit here and watch things if you wish.
You can cross-country ski, hike, bike thru it on the bike path. There is much wildlife here-most notably wild turkeys and deer.
It's a great place to go in the summer when things are blooming, or in the dead of winter after a snowstorm for a hike all alone--like I did when these photos were taken.
Hong Kong Cafe has two branches in Madison, my favorite has to be the west-side branch, located on a strip mall that houses Pier 1 Imports, just off West Towne Mall. The restaurant was never busy and service from the Malaysian waiter is very attentive and friendly. The food gets served very quickly and most of them, if not all, is delicious. HK Cafe even do deliveries. dried pepper fried squid (not on the menu, but ask for it anyway) and sesame beef.
Best coffee in town. Get an expresso to prove it to yourself!
They are an artisan coffee roaster. Don't worry their coffee is much better than the burnt crap up the road at Starbucks.
At each of their locations in Madison Ancroa has at least a couple comfortable couches or chairs. Of course, the coffee will taste just as good on the go... 'Spro to sit
