Marquette University
by yooperprof
A fine Jesuit University, Marquette is very urban - just to the west of Milwaukee's Downtown. In fact, the I-43/I-94 interchange is right on the university's doorstep, and the thrum of traffic is clearly audible all over campus.
One of Milwaukee's main thoroughfares, Wisconsin Avenue, is also the main drag through the Marquette campus.

Wisconsin Conservatory of Music (1904)
by yooperprof
The Wisconsin Conservatory of Music occupies this grand mansion on the lake side of Prospect, one of the most desirable addresses (1584 N. Prospect) on the desirable East Side.
The building is also known as the McIntosh-Goodrich Mansion, and it was originally built to be a capitalist's showcase in the early twentieth century. The first owner, Charles McIntosh, was an entrepreneur and magnate responsible for building up the Milwaukee Harvester Company into a nationwide leader in its field. He commissioned Chicago architect Horatio Wilson to design this palace for a plutocrat. It was sold to the Wisconsin Conservatory in the 1930s, which in 2001 completed a meticulous $5 million restoration of the facility.
The Wisconsin Conservatory is on the National Register of History places.
Polish Festival
by dlandt
Polish Festival in Milwaukee is the largest in the country, with around 25000 attending over the course of three days. Its a golden opportunity to dance, to eat, to drink, and to enjoy the music. We saw demonstrations from the Polish army, Polish-American dog breeders, exhibits from the EU, and Polish handicrafts, crystal and more.
morbidly hot summers
by LaFreakEgurL
light weight, shorts, short sleeves, tanks, etc. originally I am from GA, but i have lived in WI for 4-5 years.
personally, I think that the summers in Milwaukee WI are unbearable. It seems like they would be mild, but my first summer there I was a complete wreak, everytime I went outside of a nice, cool building the heat would smack me dead in the face, as if I had just opened a 365 degree oven and let the heat blow over me.
If you are traveling to Milwaukee in summer, stay closer to the lake, it is often 13-15 degrees cooler near the lake..
It could be 85 degrees in brookfield, or West Allis, but only 70 degrees near the lake shore. also, because we a are so close to a lake you'd think that there would be a lot of humidity... but once again I feel differently on this... I think that Milwaukee has a very dry heat in the summer... also for the past 5 years we have been under a summer drought. it seems to only rain maybe 5-7 times through out the 5-6 months of summer.
