Knickerbocker by the Lake

by josh_1782

Hey all,

I'm going to be travelling down to your fine city in april with a friend for 4 nights to see the Frozen Four at the Bradley Center. I have started planning my trip and the cheapest I could get within walking distance of the Bradley Center is the Knickerbocker by the Lake it's about 13 blocks away. Yes, everything within one mile is booked, believe me I tried. Anyway I've been having a hard time finding info about the hotel, can anyone help me whos stayed there or lives near there? I was tossing between that and the Executive Inn more in the center of downtown, so fill me in guys, did I reserve a dump or is it decent? I'm not real picky, but I don't want to stay in a dump either, after all I just graduated from college so I had that for the last 4 years. Thanks all!

Check out www.tripadvisor.com. Maybe there are some comments there about the hotel or others.

That is kind of a haul from the Bradley Center, maybe 1.5 - 2 miles away. Anyway, on your walk to the Bradley Center, you will pass a good area to go out for drinks...Water Street.

Ten years ago I was in the hotel, although i have eaten at the restaurant attached to it much more recently. The hotel is in a pretty good area, the rooms seemed normal from my 30 minutes of being in it ten years ago. The restuarant is actually pretty nice and can be fun.

It is near County Claire, a nice Irish pub with good food. Overall, I bet you will think the hotel is pretty good.

Travel Tips for Milwaukee

Party on the lakefront! ...

by Kay_C

Party on the lakefront! Almost every weekend in the summer we celebrate a different ethnic group with music, dancing, food and of course, Milwaukee's favorite beverage - beer! Summerfest is the world's largest lakefront music festival which goes on for 11 days over the 4th of July holiday. There are 12 main stages with music acts performing all different types of music - rock, country, blues, alternative, oldies, etc. You pay one price to get on to the grounds and then just take it all in! Riding my bike along Lake Drive with the sun rising on Lake Michigan - truly a Great Lake!

Milwaukee City Hall (1895)

by yooperprof

A classic example of late 19th century civic pride. For many years, this 300-foot tower was the tallest structure in the city. Architects H.C. Koch & Co. were inspired by Flemish guild halls in their design.

Because the city hall rests on marshy ground close to the Milwaukee River, the structure rests upon 25,000 wooden support piles!

Twin Condo Towers on the Lake (2005-07)

by yooperprof

They aren't actually twins - and they're not the same building, either - although from certain angles they do look joined together! They are indeed completely separate structures, although the two towers are only 25 feet apart! Talk about competion! They are now the two tallest residential structures in Wisconsin.

The Kilbourn Tower is the one further to the north, and the shorter of the two. It was opened in 2005, and was designed by La Dallman Architectus. Kilbourn Tower has 33 floors and reaches a height of 380 feet.

To the south, the University Club Tower has 36 floors, and tops out at 446 feet. It was designed by the internationally famous firm of Skidmore Owings and Merrill. (I wonder about if those building height figures are correct - the buildings look to be very nearly the same height.)

The nearly simultaneous construction of these condo towers is a sign on the ongoing vitality of the Milwaukee lakeshore. People want to live by water, and are willing to pay top $$$$ for outstanding views.

Tailgating

by sambarnett

A Midwest tradition!! Bring your mini-grills, plenty of meat and beer and load up before the game. A great way to beat the high price blues of the ballpark.

Note about the photograph: No, my friend Taso (far left, wearing blue Cubs jersey) does not have one leg. And although I have a tendency towards shagginess, I don't usually look as unkempt.

Miniature Bowling

by sophiebeans

Koz's Mini Bowl is one of the few remaining miniature bowling lanes around! Balls are the size of grapefruits and the pind are the size of coke bottles! Pins are set by neighborhood kids who want to earn some tips. Very unique fun!
