The place to be

The Intercontinental took over the Wyndham downtown a few months ago and completely redid all rooms, lobbies, bars, etc. The effort was well worth it and the hotel is gorgeous. This is one of few luxury properties located in Milwaukee (and even though it's luxury... it's still Milwaukee so prices are reasonable!)

There is an underground parking structure that can be paid for right with your hotel bill ($20 per day) or you can attempt to find street parking... yikes! LOL. From the parking garage it is a small hike to the front desk. The staff was effecient and friendly. My only complaint is the elevators... it was ridiculous waiting 10 minutes for the elevator to arrive and of course we were on the top floor. Apparently, they kept breaking as one was always out of order and we were momentarily stuck (nothing major just a minute or two, but still kind of creepy). There is a very hip bar in the lobby, one on a middle floor, and a lot nooks and crannies to sip a drink in.

The room was perfect. Brand new flat screen tvs, huge comfy bed, a huge desk, a mirrored wall, nice bathroom, cute "mini bar" basket with some interesting finds in it (check it out... haha). There was a large half round window in our room and the view would have been nice if the building next door wasn't under construction, but we could still see the ice skating rink from it.

Unique Quality: This hotel is in the greatest location... within walking distance of bars, clubs, restaurants and attractions. The views are beautiful and the newly refurbished hotel is spotless!

Overbooked and overrated

Arrogant desk staff, didn't honor promises made by the reservation department. When we complained about them giving our non smoking room to someone who had made reservations 7 months AFTER we had, we were told if we didn't want the smoking room thay had, they could rent it to someone else for the $200 we were paying. We got a non-smoking room at the Hyatt up the street for $159. We also found the breakfast to be over-priced and poorly served. The Pub on the second floor IS first rate and staffed by great people. The rest of the hotel is really a bit full of itself. Last stay at a Wyndham for us!

OK Big Rooms

Room was large, front desk staff were helpful, the spacious lobby was useful. Breakfast was a little unreliable and inconsistent from day to day.

More about Intercontinental Milwaukee

The InterContinental Milwaukee Hotel

by traveldave

A few years ago, I spent a weekend in Milwaukee and splurged by staying at what is now the InterContinental Milwaukee Hotel (formerly the Wyndham Hotel). In my opinion, it is the best hotel in Milwaukee, with elegant rooms and impeccable service.

The ten-story hotel was recently acquired by the Intercontinental Hotel group and underwent an extensive renovation in 2006. The InterContinental Milwaukee Hotel offers 221 rooms and 16 suites. The InterContinental Milwaukee Hotel contains the Kil@Wat, a full-service restaurant specializing in Midwest cuisine. The Zen Den is a lounge which provides a relaxing place to have a drink after a day of sightseeing. Finally, the CLEAR Lounge offers drinks, snacks, and live entertainment on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Great Stay at the Intercontinental Milwaukee

by TripAdvisor Member TravelTops

Stayed 1 Night and was extremely impressed by this hotel. The Management/Ownership did a terrific job rebranding and updating this hotel to true first class standards. Lobby is terriffic with plasma tvs and top quality materials throughout. Contemporary and hip atmosphere works well with its location directly on the milwaukee river and around great theaters and performing arts centers.

Centrally located near all major office towers and government offices...as well as all tourist sites.

Staff was terrific and helpful.

Food was great

Very Impressive and luxurious at a great value!

We'll definetly make this my Milwaukee Hotel.

Very nice stay

by TripAdvisor Member oly23

We recently stayed at the Intercontinental Milwaukee for a weekend away. From the first moment at check-in, we were treated like royalty. We were upgraded to a corner suite on the top floor. A very nice room with a view of the ice skating rink below. Bed was super comfy and the bathroom with rain shower head was roomy.
Service was superb. Front desk was very helpful. Conceirge emailed us a few times prior to trip and suggested a few nice places to go to eat. Room service for breakfast was quick and food arrived hot and delicious.
Would DEFINATELY recommend staying here on a trip to Milwaukee.

nice but not 5 stars

by TripAdvisor Member dandrew

This hotel was very nice but not a 5 star. The rooms didn't have as many luxury features as a 5 star usually does. The lobby was nice but to modern for my taste. The front desk was slow but nice. The art gallery was nice but very new art. So I wouldn't stay here because the Pfister was nicer and cheaper.

Great Milwaukee Hotel

by TripAdvisor Member Grace19

This hotel is beautiful: contemporary & updated; very classy. Conveniently located in the same structure as The Pabst Theater and Milwaukee Rep. Room was nice size, large desk w/ Herman Miller Aeron chair, flat screen TV. Bed was outfitted with lovely bedding, including a feather bed. Bathroom was a bit small, but that is due to original construction of the building. Bathroom fixtures were updated and towels were nice size and thick. Robe was also made available. We did not eat at Kil@wat, the restuarant, or visit the Clear lounge, but the restaurant was booked solid for reservations on a Saturday night and the lounge was packed after the concert we saw at The Pabst. My take was that the hotel & lounge were both frequented by not just hotel guests, but also locals. Next time we travel to Milwaukee for a concert, we will definitely be staying at the InterContinental!

A little disappointed

by TripAdvisor Member travellover2727

All in all, I have to say our stay this past weekend at the Intercontinental was fine. Nothing exceptional. I think we expected it to be pretty nice based on it's #1 rating and star ranking. We were celebrating my husband's birthday and had never been to Milwaukee, so I booked the top-end "King Superior" hoping for a romantic and luxurious experience. Maybe this is as good as it gets in Milwaukee, I don't know. But the room was a little bit dusty, right off the elevator, and there was no turn-down service or extras. Not even little things like q-tips or mouthwash in the bathroom, no slippers or complimentary bottles of water, no free continental breakfast or little pillow chocolates, etc. Maybe we've just been spoiled at really nice hotels, but we definitely expected more from this place and for the price we were paying for one of the "best" rooms. Don't get me wrong -- the location was perfect for us because we saw a show at the Pabst which turned out to be just steps outside, Mo's was a short walk and everything was accessible from here, including the casino (free shuttle). But outside of the average room and not one above average customer service experience (the front desk didn't seem too knowledgeable about stuff in the area or particularly friendly, the doorman didn't open the door for us once, etc.), we were let down. And there was no peace -- either because of our room's location or the lack of wall insulation, there was noise coming at us from all directions -- outside near the elevator, next door from the late night party people and outside the window from the street. If you get a good deal then it's fine for a centrally-located Milwaukee hotel. But don't spend money for luxury here -- you won't get it and you won't have a relaxing, comfortable experience.

Nice Surprise

by TripAdvisor Member mkgesq

Overall, a great stay. Right now, there's a lot of construction around the hotel so roads are blocked off so its a bit of a challenge to get to. However, this place is quite nice once you get there. Room was great - separate sitting area so it feels like a mini-suite. Bathroom small but works just fine. Very clean. Lounge, lobby and restaurant areas are gorgeous. Staff very friendly and helpful. Skip the food here. Lunch at Kil@watt - not tasty. Service and decor exceptional but grilled chicken sandwich & grilled cheese sandwich left much to be desired. Room service awful. Asked for egg whites - got whites & yolks. All food (restaurant & room service) tastes like it came out of being soaked in the same deep fryer. Coffee, however, is delicious. Would definitely go back if I am in Milwaukee.
