Travel Tips for Washburn

"(Bonus Points for the correct pronunciation)"

A Pretty place.

This is the Bayfield County seat. Bayfield has a year-round population of 14,000, though I'm sure it's higher in the summer.

At one time Du Pont had a major munitions factory in Washburn, and 10,000 people lived in the town. The town now has about 2300 residents, but I wouldn't be surprised if the population starts to grow again - this is a beautiful place.

"Bayfield County Courthouse"

The present Bayfield County was created in 1866. In 1892 the county seat was moved from Bayfield to Washburn. This Courthouse was erected in 1894-95; of locally quarried sandstone at a cost of $31,737.00, by the architectural firm of Orff and Joralemon, Mpls.

Classical order in the Northwoods!
