More about Big Bear Motel
The decor will take you back--and so will the service
by TripAdvisor Member lindmere
Your experience of the Big Bear will depend in part on whether you find the wood-panelled '60s-style decor an adorable throwback (as we did) or a depressing eyesore. Between the spotlessly clean rooms with cute bear motif and the extremely friendly service, we fell under the Big Bear's spell and never regretted for a minute that we hadn't stayed in a higher-priced chain. The amenities can be quirky--no phone or clock/radio, but a brand-new microwave and mini-fridge and high-speed wireless Internet--and yes, the wind scared the pants off us the first time we heard it howling. But Bill and Jody made us feel we had friends in Cody from the minute we walked in the door, and the location on the western edge of town made our getaway to Yellowstone super fast. If coffee and doughnuts don't hold you, try the "25 cent coffee" place across the street. You'll be feeling like a local in no time.
Very comfortable. Would stay again!

We stayed a week with a family of 5 with 3 children and will not look anywhere else next time we visit Cody. The owners Bill and Jody Holly are friendly, hospitable, helpful, and genuine. The rooms were neat, clean, and comfortable. Our daughters loved their family as well and enjoyed time with the Holly's horses. The close proximity to a number of attractions also made site seeing easier.
Lovely Place - great pool - wonderful atmosphere

We were searching for a nice place to stay and found it here. Great outdoor pool and wonderful atmosphere. Just imagine, you sit at your front porch, infront of you there is a horse, a woman who plays country music and a beautiful sunset in the background. All this you can find at the Big Bear Motel. Rooms are clean with all you need. Even so they are listed in the tourbook without breakfast, they offer a small continental breakfast with coffee, muffins and fruits. Located is the motel close to the Rodeo grounds. Restaurants and shopping options are close by.
Also wireless internet is available for a small fee. For a Motel the Big Bear Motel offers all you need and even more. We would definitely stay again.
Of all the places we stayed - Big Bear will always be remembered!

We found Big Bear to be very close to the city of Cody with it's sites & museums. We loved the spirit of comunity that surrounded the town of Cody, and Big Bear fits into this community beautifully! If you need anything, these people will do whatever they can to get if for you. The rooms are very cozy, and when inside our room, we didn't hear the kids next door to us. The view from the back of the hotel was nothing short of breathtaking. The horses on the premises make it a home-like and family oriented place to visit.
We are so pleased with Big Bear's Bill and Jody! Suzanne & John; Minneapolis, MN

Charming Setting and Family Oriented

We all had a wonderful week at Big Bear. The kids were delighted with the 'pony cart' and the pool was a great way for everyone to relax at the end of our long exhausting days of exploring the area.
At least it was clean.

I can't believe this hotel was #1 on trip advisor. The funishings were sparse and old, but they were clean. The TV had to be at least 15 years old. There was no shampoo, conditioners, etc. furnished by the hotel. We only received two tiny bars of soap.We payed $129.00 a night for a roof over our heads and a bed to sleep in. I guess the one thing that could be said about this hotel was that it was clean.
We Love the Big Bear!

We have been staying at the Big Bear Motel in Cody, Wy. for over 20 years and since Bill & Jody have taken over it has gotten better and better. They have redone all of the rooms and you can feel the tender loving care they have given the place. Jody loves horses and at times there are miniature horses roaming around on the lawn like big dogs - great fun. Bill & Jody also make you feel at home with their friendliness and the place is very restful and family oriented. There is a big beautiful heated pool, pony rides and sometimes there is a little free entertainment right outside the office in the evening. The views of the mountains are spectacular! My husband and I hope to be able to spend the next 20 years there on our travels out west.
Pleasantly surprised

When we pulled into the place I was a little nervous, but the rooms were better than I thought. The decor is a little outdated, but the place was very clean and the owner very nice. There were 5 of us and we had enough space. The "breakfast" was very much lacking so we ate out. The place definitely has a western feel and family-friendly!
