As with most hotels these days we had to agree to be charged a "cleaning fee" if we smoked in the non-smoking rooms as part of the check-in process. No problem... we wouldn't dream of doing that anyway, let alone once we had signed an agreement stating that if we did we would be charged $300.
We get back from lunch and our key isn't working in the door. My husband goes to the front desk to get the key recoded when the manager tells him she's going to charge us $300 because we've been smoking in the room even though we most definitely have not. (They entered the room in our absence supposedly to change an air filter.)
My husband's calm and reasonable approach (never raised his voice, used a bad word, or said anything in a way the wasn't professional) was met with this lady screaming, actually screaming at him and not even willing to listen that this was not the case. She was acting like a lunatic. My husband was actually afraid she was going to call the police and make up some story about him. Since this could not be settled calmly and we were due to spend another night there, my husband offered to leave - check out right then. This woman said "If you check out now I'll charge your credit card the $300 immediately!!" (Still ranting, raving, and screaming.)
It absolutely ruined a day of our trip. A trip we had been planning for over a year. I'm not sure if her plan was to get my husband to cause a scene so she could call the police and have us thrown out and keep our money or what she was thinking. (Another review has said she called him after he left to try to charge him for damage to a tub that he had no part in and didn't see.)
Stay away!! The owner/manager is at the very best an unstable lunatic who should not be in the hospitality industry, or a scam artist charging tourists credit cards for things they didn't do.
One other note: If you have someone above you, you will hear every step they take all night long.
