Ride the Snow King Chair Lift

Even in summer, weather permitting, Snow King Resort runs their chair lift on top of a mountain. The view from the top is beautiful - you can take in a lot of the Jackson Hole area beauty.

Silver Condos show their age

by TripAdvisor Member rob1764

I had mixed feelings when I reserved rooms at the Snow King Resort.....some of the reviews were good while some were not so good. When we checked in, the first thing we noticed was that some of the front staff were not very friendly. It would be so easy for management to train these people to be pleasant. For many visitors, these are the only hotel staff they ever meet.

The two bedroom Silver Condo was OK. The major issues with both condos (we stayed two separate nights) was the filthy carpet and mold in the bathroom.

My opinion is that the management of this hotel needs to get more involved in the front staff politeness and the housekeeping cleanliness. It is so easy to steam vac or use Oxy Clean in the carpet.....but it seems that this is not a priority for the people who run this hotel.

Worst Hotel Ever

We booked a room at the Snow King resort through expedia. I expected a room and was surprised when we were handed the keys to a condo behind the main resort. The room was basically half a condo - bottom of the unit with two connecting bedrooms and a miniscule bathroom, with a locked staircase to the second floor. . The shower/toilet unit was the smallest we've ever seen - and we've been to Europe. The room's phone did not work. We needed to be able to be reached, as cell phones don't always work in the mountains. Spoke to the front desk 4 times over course of day one. We waited up, after a long day of travel until 10:30 ... No manager was to be found, and young adults at front desk could have cared less. Phone was fixed next day by 3:00. Next night, the residents of the apartments immediately next to condos came home at 2:00 am loud, drunk and obnoxious. The Snow King Condo's have no air conditioning, so windows were wide open.
Last night, the guests upstairs had a dog with them, who howled for an hour and a half once they left. Phoned the front desk again, "No dogs are allowed in the condos!!!??" They did knock on the door at 11:00 pm and resolve that issue. Our 5am wakeup call - came at 5:30.
Housekeeping did a respectable job cleaning in a timely manner - but the overall condition of the unit was worn.
I would NEVER recommend this Hotel.

Refuse the condos in the summer!

by TripAdvisor Member livewireworld

We just had two days of our vacation ruined by this hotel. It's the same experience mentioned in the August 7, 2006 by the person from Philadelphia. We booked a regular hotel room through Expedia more than two months ago and PAID IN FULL. This was supposed to be a two bed hotel room in the 200-room lodge which contains the restaurant, pool, game room, and the alpine slide right outside the door. Both the Expedia site and the Snow King site said the units are air conditioned.

Upon check-in at 8PM, I am told that they are putting us into a 3-bedroom condo. I say we don't really need that space, but they say the lodge is full. So we go check out the condo. Yes, it's spacious. It's also a mile from the hotel, is dirty with stained carpets, and has NO AIR CONDITIONING. It gets hot in Jackson during the summer and the thermostat says 85 degrees. Both Expedia and the Snow King do not mention anywhere on their web sites that the condos are not air conditioned.

A call to the front desk gains nothing -
US: "Are you sure you don't have any rooms in the lodge? We booked and paid in advance two months ago. This condo has no air conditioning and it's 85 degrees in here."
SNOW KING: "I'm sorry, but we sold the last hotel room this afternoon. There are some fans in the closet."
US: "Why were you still selling rooms when those of us with guaranteed late arriving reservations were getting bumped?"
SNOW KING: "I'm sorry, maybe we'll be able to get you into the hotel tomorrow."

Are you kidding me? I paid over $200 night to stay here. I'd of been better off in the cool air conditioned Super 8 down the street. I called Expedia. They promised to call the hotel and find us alternate accommodations. Two hours pass. No call. I call back. The next Expedia representative documents the situation and gives me a reference number. She does sound sincere and calls the hotel, but the supervisor on duty cannot promise a refund. They have to wait until the manager arrives at 8:00AM the next morning (any manager with any integrity would be available in such situations). Expedia says we can go find another hotel, but they can't promise they'll be able to get the money back from Snow King. I call 6 hotels. All booked. Frustrated and angry, we do the best we can to sleep.

I call Expedia in the morning with the reference number. They call the hotel and are told the manager is in meetings until the afternoon(why were we told to call back in the morning if the manager was going to be unavailable?). They tell the Expedia agent to call back in the afternoon. We pack up because there is no way we can stay here another night. At 1:30PM, I call Expedia again and they say the manager will refund us the second night ONLY. What a ripoff!!!! Expedia is as much to blame here as Snow King. Expedia customers are being given the runaround by this hotel. The hotel sells them rooms cheaper early on, but if they can get the rack rate during the day to some unsuspecting customer - it's off to the condo furnace for you Expedia customers. I had expected a full refund from Expedia (the multi-million dollar company) and expected them to settle with the hotel, but Expedia's response, "We're sorry sir, if the hotel doesn't refund us, we can't refund you." WOW! Never again, Expedia. That Travelocity guarantee is sounding pretty good.

Expedia did give us $100 credit, but only on an Expedia Special Rate reservation. You think I want to risk this again????

The airlines tend to take care of you in these situations, but there seems to be little regulation of the hotel industry. Be careful out there, and stay away from the Snow King Resort in Jackson, Wyoming!!!

Loved this place!

by TripAdvisor Member tinybear

I had made reservations at the lodge for a one night stay, we wanted to visit Jackson Hole on our way to Yellostone, but when we arrived there seemed to be some kind of convention going on so they upgraded us to a one bedroom condo that was very nice! Loved the bathroom and the kitchen! Huge walk-in shower and a huge garden tub. The king size bed was very comfortable and there was a top sheet and another sheet covering the blanket! Since it got chilly that night we also used the gas fireplace until it got the room too hot and we had to turn it off.

I would definitely recommend the condos. The only small problem was that there was construction going on around the condos, but it didn't bother us much as we were up at 6:00 that morning.

Great setting

A great place to stay in Jackson, out of the hurly burly...it exceeded our expectations. Rooms were clean, well furnished and a good base for Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. Friendly helpful staff and the breakfast was one of the best of our two week trip, we also got a good deal for four nights and booking in advance..would recommend to friends.

There are better places to stay

by TripAdvisor Member ckdgedmom

We spent 2 nights at the Snow King in late July. It wasn't the worst place we have ever stayed, but it was far from the nicest. I was hoping for a bit more from what I saw on the website so I was disappointed. At least the beds were comfortable, but the room was quite dated and the bathroom was only as nice as you would find in a Motel 6. We did enjoy the location and the kids had fun on the Alpine Slide.

I would try other places in Jackson before settling for this place. I wish I had booked earlier (all the "good" hotels were booked) or just bit the bullet and paid a bit more. We paid $225/night for this hotel and it was the priciest hotel in our trip to Yellowstone/Teton/Zion/Bryce/Park City/Vegas, but it was, unfortunately, the biggest "dump" of the hotels we stayed at.

I'd love to return to Jackson, but we will choose another resort or hotel next time...

Will not Stay Again

by TripAdvisor Member JonJan12

I had booked two rooms for a two day stay on Aug 12 and 13. There were no rooms in the hotel. We were sent to a townhouse a quarter of a mile from the main facility. The townhouse smelled plus there was no air conditioning. Yes, air conditioning was needed. The place is in dire need of being renovated as soon as possible. Everything was worn and old. Especially the bed linens. The bathroom was maybe 5ft by 3ft at the most.
I will not be staying at this place ever again. I should have cancelled my reservation and gone to Teton Village.

General Questions & Wagon Wheel Village...

by CheriandDave

Hello...

My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon for October of 2007...how fast do places normally book up? Any information you can give me on great restaurants, attractions, etc would be appreciated. Also...has anyone ever stayed or are you familiar with the Wagon Wheel Village (wagonwheelvillage.com)? We're possibly thinking of staying at one of the condos there. Thanks a lot!

Congratulations! We honeymooned in Yellowstone and Grand Teton this past August! I booked our rooms about 6 months in advance, perhaps 7. I would advise to book at least that far in advance. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

October is off season in Jackson no crowds, reduced prices, variable weather.

by WYScott

This year it was still sunny and upper 50's during the day 20-30F at night. Last year we got 2 feet of snow on Oct 2.
Off season prices go into effect after labor day.
Wagon Wheel Village is an older property about 8 blocks N of the town square. Nice place, well maintained. But- from the picture in the condo details on their website, the condo is at the base of Snow King Mtn, near Snow King Resort. This is about 8 blocks South of the town square. Nice condos, only about 5 years old. Free shuttle bus from Snow King to anywhere in town on the 1/2 hr.
Definitely stay in town. The village is dead in Oct.
Check out lodging at the Rusty Parrot, The Parkway Inn. Both upper end small inns right in town. Perfect for a honeymoon.
The restraunts are pretty well covered on this site. Lots of variety and wide price range. A lot offer discounts in Oct. Silver Dollar Bar is a local watering hole, great place for happy hour. Have a drink before dinner and pick local brains, most are happy to answer questions and give advice.
