We were reluctant to book here because there were no pictures of the rooms on their web page. But the place is very nice, both inside and out. (We are not easy to please.) We also hesitated because of the low price. What can you expect for $65 a night (yes, that's for two people!)? Here, a LOT. Carol and Dexter really like people and are great hosts.
Unique Quality: Great hot tub outside where you can watch the sun go down over the Wind River Mountains on the horizon.
Carol and Dexter are clearly pretty conservative Christians, but not pushy at all. Praying at breakfast is fairly inevitable, I imagine. But I can't imagine their objecting if you want to come in later! Very gracious.
Dexter is both a cowboy and an accomplished builder. (He built all the buildings on the ranch by himself!)
Directions: Call and ask Carol. It's tricky the first time, since the road signs in Wyoming tend to be small and hard to spot. At the end, you have to look for a certain mailbox
A beautiful rustic log home, with a great view of the Wind River Mountains. The owners, Dexter and Carole Smith are wonderful, friendly people. They make you feel right at home! There are 3 bedrooms available, along with the option of sleeping in a Teepee (which sleeps 4). You can also soak in the hot tub in the evening, watching the stars emerge in the nighttime sky. Your stay includes a wonderful breakfast. Lunch and dinner are also available. There is horse boarding available, as well as pack horse rentals, instructions, etc.
Definitely a must stop! Very family oriented. I guarantee you'll feel right at home.
Unique Quality: There are a lot of activities available at Pole Creek Ranch, and nearby, including horseback riding, hiking, biking, covered wagon and buggy rides, fishing, canoeing, and whitewater rafting. In the winter months, the snow brings cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, snowmobiling, and sleigh rides.
Directions: 1/2 mile south of Pinedale turn up Fayette Pole Creek Road. Proceed 2-1/3 miles and turn right on driveway #244. Home at the top of the hill.
