Travel Tips for Sheridan

by singleguy78

Well, this is a good one, as i am out of things to do myself. First time activities, both indoor and outdoor include: We have a theater where plays and concerts are performed. It is called the Wyo Theatre. We just recently had Garth Brooks perform a Christmas concert. Tickets are usually sold at 7 or 8 random businesses around town to draw customers and promote sales. The Theatre is located on South Main. We also have an indoor and outdoor cinema. The indoor one is called Centennial 5 Theatres. It has 5 seperate movie theatres that play 2 or 3 times a day, 5 different movies, and it is open all year. The outdoor theatre(known here as the Drive-In) is named Skyline Drive-In. It is located on the very south end of town past the interstate overpass. It holds about 50-60 cars and is only open during the summer season(for obvious resons..LOL!) Outdoor things include the mountain range we live about 15-20 miles away from. It is called the Big Horn Mountain Range. There are many things to do there from camping to boating. There are lakes and canyons abound. I spend time there whenever i can, summer or winter. In the winter, skiing and snowmobiling are favorite activities. In the summer, hiking, camping, motorcycling, and water sports are everywhere. My best memory of Sheridan, which is still going on, is the fireworks displays on the 4th of July. The shows actually take place outside of city limits because they are illegal in town. Places called the Polo Ranch which is probably 6 to 8 miles out of town. Another display takes place in Ucross, Wyoming. That is a town not big enough to be called a town, that is why they hold the show, to remind locals that they are still around!...LOL!

Greybull - a wacky motel

by toonsarah

In the town of Greybull on the western edge of the Big Horn Mountains is the Maverick Motel. I can’t write an accommodation tip for this place as we didn’t stay here, but it provided us with a unique photo opportunity and if like us you enjoy the off-beat and wacky, then a stop here is a must!

The area in front of the motel is devoted to their Western and Ranch Antique Museum, with over 550 antiques (?) on display. Old vehicles (including a Model T), agricultural implements, wooden animals and a host of other bric-a-brac kept us intrigued and trigger happy for quite a while. The motel was up for sale when we were passing (in Sept 2006) – I just hope the new owners keep this fascinating collection on display as it certainly makes this place stand out from the crowd of “Mom & Pop” motels!

Apart from the main photo, which is mine, the others on this page were taken by my husband Chris. Check out his website for some interesting images from our Wyoming trip.

Sheridan, Wyoming

"Bighorn Mountains outside of Sheridan"

Wyoming is the least populated state in the USA at under 500,000 people. Sheridan lies at the foot of the Bighorn Mountain Range. The range is appox. 100 miles long and 50 miles wide and most is National Forest land.

Sheridan County has a population of approx. 30,000 and Sheridan City 14,000. Sheridan is not a big tourist town even though it is one of the main routes to Yellowstone National Park on Interstate 90. It is still considered a ranching community and enjoys local rodeos and polo.

Our local radio station has a web cam looking out over the valley in which Sheridan is located. also see fiberpipe's new streaming web cam of main street sheridan at
