time for a shower and exit

Our last night in Yellowstone found us camping at Grant Village, one of the park's mega-campgrounds at 400 spots. We had not had a shower in a few days and generally speaking these facilities are only available at the larger campgrounds. It was actually a lot nicer than we anticipated and despite frigid conditions we enjoyed camping here as well.

Unique Quality: Though there were many spots, they were spread out over many loops so it did not feel particularly large. Spots were well-spaced and treed and offered plenty of privacy. Restrooms were much more modern and the central shower facility was perhaps the nicest of any National Park we visited in the summer of 2008. It was heated and very clean and a bargain at $2 each. This provided us a quick exit from the park and got us into Grand Teton National Park to the south fairly early.

Grant Village charges for their many conveniences but at $20 per night, it's still a lot less expensive than other parks in its caliber. It is also can be reserved unlike Norris and Tower Fall which are first come, first served only.

Camping in Yellowstone

by cincycamper

We will be tent camping in Yellowstone for 5 days in mid-August and want to reserve a sight in advance. We are considering Canyon Campground and/or Grant Village Campground, but we don't know which would offer more scenic, private, shaded sites. We also don't know wether we should stay at just one or switch campgrounds half way through our stay to see other areas of the park. Any suggestions.
