Iguazu in One Day from BA?

by sjlm

I am sure it is preferable to spend at least one overnight at Iguazu, but is it at all reasonable to leave BA early in the morning (approx. 7am flight) and return to BA on a flight that arrives at approx. 10pm? If so, is it almost necessary to have a guide for the whole day who would pick us up at the airport in the morning and return us to the airport at night? Can you recommend someone? Thanks for the help.

I don't think you should even think of doing this. No matter how carefully you plan it, and book flights, guide, etc, Aerolineas Argentinas is so unreliable you could find your early morning flight delayed by hours - and then where would you be? The Falls are magnificent - give them their due and spend at least one night there. Even then you won't do them justice but it is better than the few hours you're talking about.

Of course everyone will say you have to spend 1 or even better 2 nights in Iguazu, but if you really want to do it in one day it is possible with the flight times you mention.

I would indeed recommend flying with LAN (although the problems with Aerolineas are not that big on the moment. Actually Aerolineas has improved since the former owners have exited and the government has covered the back wages.)

There is no need for a guide to the falls. Just take a taxi from the airport(rather close by) to the falls and back.

Travel Tips for Buenos Aires

Art in "El Subte"

by Gypsystravels

I love art and I particulary love finding art in places you wouldn't normally expect it to be. Art is a wonderful way of expressing an idea or view and what I have noticed through my travels is that many cities now have art strategically placed in the "train stations".

In Buenos Aires we saw many wonderful works of art, either on the walls or in the instance of this first pic, on the floor of the subte station (at Plaza Italia).

Children

by andal13

Children are the same everywhere... I was at MACN (Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales) with my camera, taking pictures to the fossils, when a group of school kids approached and asked me to take them a picture, and here they are, by the Megatherium.

Argentine Football

by lkdahl

Can't go to Argentina without going to a football match.

Try anyone of the main hotels. They should have info, brochure of services that provide a genuine Argentine football experience. Just pick the match 3and these services will come an pick you up from your hotel or apartment and take you to the game by bus, and provide tickets for you in the reserved seating area.

A guide will be present with you during the game and a bus will be waiting just outside the stadium to take you back to your hotel or apartment.

Cost for me was 100 pesos(about $35 USD). Be sure to wear neutral colors or the home teams colors or jersey. NEVER wear the road teams jersey or cheer openly for the road team. With the guided services, you will ALWAYS be seated on the home teams side.

Note that when looking at the fixtures/schedule, the home team is always listed first. This is the opposite of schedules are printed in the US.

The best shops

by IIGUANA about Palermo

If you want to dress as an argentinian, meaning, if you want to dress great and look amazing, then you'll find plenty of local designer shops in Palermo. Scattered around a few blocks, this is the place to shop and to find just the right outfit, wheter you're a guy or a gal. There are shops for every taste. Just find the one that suits you.

Now This Is Off The Beaten Track

by FlanMan about Cafe Tortoni-Tango Bar

Cafe Tortoni . Don't leave town till you have paid a visit to a very authentic tango parlor. The show is a trip, very resonable, not a tourist trap. A local hang out. When the audience was invited to shout out where they were from, it was like the UN General Assembly.
