Buenos Aires Hilton: Excellent Lounge   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Buenos Aires Hilton is one of the better hotels in my opinion. It is the only Hilton property in town and is fairly new. I particularly like the layout of the hotel and the executive floors on 8 and 9. The lounge is on 8 and quite large. There is a pool table here in the lounge as well as some high end liquors during the happy hour with decent food options. I had some sandwiches and prawns along with a glass of scotch while I was up here. The soft drinks are available all day long.

The rooms are fairly standard. I only saw the two bed rooms which are sufficient but nothing great.

The lobby area is large and well designed. There are several restaurants available although I’d never eat in a hotel restaurant while in Buenos Aires.

The gym here is quite nice as is the spa and pool area. The pool is off of the 8th floor executive lounge. I didn’t use it but it is one of the nicest I have seen in my travels.

Sheraton Libertador Hotel: OK Hotel to just have a room.   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The Sheraton Liberator is one of those hotels that you stay in because others are and the location is good. It is not a great hotel in my mind but its good for groups and good in its location. As I’ve stated I prefer to stay in apartments in Recoleta but would use a hotel for a three day or less stay.

The rooms here are pretty basic. The hotel is known for not all the climate controls working in every room. I did enjoy the lobby lounge as we sat here into the morning drinking wine and just chilling.

The executive club was closed while I was there for renovations. Only three floors had been done so far and honestly don’t look great. But be sure to check on the status of renovations when you stay.

Design Suites is a contemporary "boutique" hotel with sleek comfortable rooms. It is convenient to Recoleta cemetary and other interesting sites.

There are 40 rooms and at this time (Oct.2005) the cost for a room with a double bed is approximately $99 per night. The service is good, staff friendly and well-intentioned. A shuttle from the airport (30 some miles away) delivers you to the hotel.

The lobby has an elongated pool with a seating area surrounding it. Drinks can be ordered here, too, and it's a good place to meet if you are traveling with friends or family. When we visited in Feb. 2005, a small selection of jewelry and clothing was available for sale in this area at certain times of the day.

The convenient location and friendliness of the staff makes this an accommodation we would recommend.

Park Chteau Kempinski Hotel Buenos Aires: Boutique Hotel In Recoleta   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • We were supposed to stay at the Kempinski Park Central near the Obelisk and several subte lines but when we arrived they were either overbooked or were having maintenance problems and they sent us over to the Kempinski Park Chateau in the posh Recoleta neighborhood. We should have asked to switch back to the original hotel, although this hotel was convenient to Recoleta Cemetery, it was located in a quiet residential area and wasn't convenient to much else (including the subte), we spent an extra 15 minutes walking each direction every time we left our hotel, most people will find that they need to use taxis. The reception desk at the Park Central said this was a nicer hotel but as they were evenly priced, I suspect that they were of similar quality.

Even though we were on a quiet side street, we never felt unsafe returning to our hotel late at night.

I'd give this hotel an A for it's rooms, our room was nicely decorated with warm colors, a comfortable bed, cable TV, minibar, air conditioning. Our room was not on the street side so it was very quiet at night, another couple we met said the street side rooms could be a little noisy. Electrical outlets had slanted slots like the ones on my Australian adapter, fortunately the TV was plugged into an adapter so I could charge my camera battery.

The bathroom was also nicely decorated, there was a hair dryer, soft towels, toiletries were just soap, shampoo and lotion. Plenty of hot water for showers.

Breakfast is included in the rate, included eggs, sausage, pastries, cereal, fruit, meat, bread, juice and the breakfast room is right past the lobby of the hotel. It wasn't as good as the other two hotels we stayed at on this trip but it was adequate.

Negatives-the small 2 person elevator was rarely available so we ended up walking up 2 flights to our room every time. Not a big deal but they also used the stairs for laundry and room service so you were walking by this stuff every day.

The front desk made us a reservation for a tango show but they mixed us up with another couple. They got us a taxi but we ended up with the worst seats in the house. And the show, which they recommended, wasn't very good. All in all, the hotel staff did not impress me.

    Hotel Victory: Good location
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • The hotel is not too big, a little decadent, it has awful elevators (the stairs are always the best option!) and its staff it is not the most lovely of the world, indeed (except the friendly maids). We were a group of 16 people, and we had different experiences at this hotel; I shared a triple room, and it was wide, comfortable and well decorated; the shower was a pleasure, and it had TV and frigo-bar; other colleagues were not so lucky, and had small rooms, without TV or frigo-bar. So I was quite satisfied, but other fellows were not.

The best thing I can say about this hotel is that it is in an excellent location: one block from Florida Street, one block from Córdoba Avenue, two blocks from San Martín Square.

Lo mejor que puedo decir de este hotel es que está en una ubicación excelente: a una cuadra de Florida, a una cuadra de Avenida Córdoba y a dos cuadras de la Plaza San Martín.

Anywhere in Recoleta: Avoid the hotels rent an apartment
  • Tip Rating:
  • Satisfaction:
  • I rented an apartment 6 blocks from Recoleta Village.
It was a new, very clean apartment with security guard on duty in the day, daily maid service and one of the local restaurants delivered breakfast every morning.

I found the apartment through a website that rents apartments to tourists or business people for short stays, a week or longer.

These are the services I received with the premium package.

    Airport pickup by remis
    Wireless internet(computer not included)
Breakfast delivered daily by a local restaurant
    Daily maid service
Free access to local health club
Mobile phone(need to purchase phone cards)
Security guard on duty during daytime
Maid would also pick up/drop off laundry for additional fee.

Nuevo Callao Hotel: A Different Sort of Room

  • A View Toward One of Our Balcony Exits - Buenos Aires
A View Toward One of Our
    Balcony Exits
    by Bwana_Brown

During the recent renovations to the hotel, they must have severely re-arranged our room. In addition to the usual square bedroom area with it's balcony exit, there was a long narrow hallway running past a second window and ending at a floor-to-ceiling closet. To the left off the hallway was a modern and clean bathroom with shower/tub, sink, flush and bidet. To the right off the hall, was another set of tall doors that opened onto a second concrete balcony (the tall rounded door in the previous Tip).

The strange thing was, the two balconies were not connected to each other. I could stand on the concrete one talking across the gap to Sue on the wrought-iron railing balcony. Even stranger was the fact that the wrought-iron balcony continued onward to someone else's room, so you could walk into it if their door happened to be open!

There is no air conditioning, but the large ceiling fan in the very high room did a great job, and you need something moving the air around in the 30+ Celcius (90 F) summer temperatures!

Faena Hotel And Universe: Wanna spend US$350 a night in an awesome place?   Compare Rates NEW!
  • Tip Rating:

  • I've never stayed here, but I'm thinking of having my wedding night here. IF I get someone who wants to give me a US$350 present, IF I get married, ha!
I went to have a drink with some VTers to the bar. I cannot find words to describe it, so just look at the pictures on its webpage and you'll understand why this is not money down the drain.
The only word I can think of is: unique.
It was designed by a world-famous French architect, but I don't know his name!

Nuevo Hotel Callao: Watching the Action

  • Our View Down Callao from the Wrought-Iron Balcony - Buenos Aires
Our View Down Callao from the
    Wrought-Iron Balcony

We got great enjoyment out of our balconies, especially the one beside the beds. During the afternoons, after returning from a day's walking, we would open the room up and just enjoy watching the hustle and bustle of the city below. It was also nice to have our own little Jacaranda tree waving in the breezes. This view from the wrought-iron balcony shows the adjoining room's access as well as the view down the one-way Av. Callao toward Plaza del Congreso, which is located only 3 blocks away.

In the evenings, the temperature was so mild that we could lay in bed with the doors open as we sipped fine Argentinian wine, talking and staring up at the old skyline across the street and into the sky above. Sometimes there were showers or flashes of lightning in the summer clouds. All the time, the busy street sounds of cars, busses and trucks let us know that we were in the middle of a large and vibrant city.

Fortunately, the outer wooden shutters, followed by the glass doors and then the heavy double-drapes, combined with the ceiling fan drowned out the street noise when we actually wanted to sleep!
