Skype in Buenos Aires?

by JammyPearson

Hey everyone,

My girlfriend is out in Buenos Aires and is looking for somewhere that has skype as the place she used has unexpectedly closed down. Can anyone help with any place that they know? She lives in Recoleta so somewhere near there would be better, but anywhere that you know of would be a massive help.

She has tried regular interent cafes but they won't let her download skype for some reason and pay phones are really expensive.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I've found that most locutorios and internet cafes already have skype on their computers that you can use. I've never heard of one that does not have it.

This web site has a list of all of the wi-fi spots in the city. could help her find places near her home to figure out which ones have skype.

hope that helps

Travel Tips for Buenos Aires

Famous Casa Rosada, the...

by lihue

Famous Casa Rosada, the Argentinian Government building. Located at Plaza de Mayo this building seems to be the mirror of Argentinian history for all important events in the country's past happend around Plaza de Mayo. There is a small museum open to the public, displaying memorabilia of Argentinian presidents.

Restaurant cubierto (cover charge) and tipping

by craftsmn

The cubierto or cover charge that you may find on your restaurant bill is not a tip. It is a charge many sitdown restaurants charge and is usually printed somewhere on the menu (not always easy to find though).

I have never seen a restaurant in BsAs add a tip to the bill (for smaller parties anyway). It is normal in Argentina to tip around 10% although tourist often tip more.

Mendoza wines

by DPando

Argentinia has excellent wines from Mendoza region and one of the best places you can buy them is in Corrientes avenue on the lower part (2 or 3 blocks going up from the river) where is a winery crowded with excellent and thousand of bottles of wine.. all kind of argentinian and a really good staff always ready to help u about wich is the best option

Of course should be cheaper buy them in Mendoza region wineries but in the other hand its a good point buy them like a present before to take off from Argentina

Cerveceria Quilmes

by DPando

Located in Quilmes municipality ..southwards from the capital.... i dont know if theres much to see but i went to the gorgeous and huge "cerveceria" just amidst a fabolous resort well kept ....where i ate and drink a lot ..all was really cheap and theres a souvenirs shop
If you are interested the best way to get there is take a cab from capital or any remis from quilmes quarter

A stroll on Calle Florida

by mydreamquest about Calle Florida (Florida street)

Pretty much if you need anything, Calle Florida is a good place to look for it. Although I didn't buy anything here, other than a nice capuccino at this McDonalds, it's a great place to walk in Buenos Aires.

One tip of speaking Argentine Spanish is in how you pronounce the double "L" or "ll" sound. In most Spanish speaking countries, the word for street: "calle" is pronounced: "Kie-yeh." In Buenos Aires, the double "L" is pronounced like a sexy "shhh" type of whispering sound.

So calle in Buenos Aires is pronounced: "Kah-sheh." A gentle "shh" is how you pronounce it as if you're trying to push the message of the gently aside.

Prior to arriving to Argentina, I thought the "LL" was pronounced with an exaggerated "ZH" sound. But it's subtle and when pronounced correctly in an Argentine accent, sounds very serene.
