A nice old building but pretty basic. No air conditioning and no screens on the windows so the mosquitos will eat you up at night. It was loud in the early morning as they started preparing breakfast. The "private" bathroom is down the hall so it kind of defeats the purpose. I stayed here the first two nights I was in B.A. hoping to meet other travelers since I was on my own. No luck, everyone stayed to themselves.
Unique Quality: Good location, you can walk all over Palermo Viejo from there. Patricia was very nice and helpful in arranging for a tango dinner show. The front door is kept locked for security, which seemed like a good thing. I paid $35/night U.S. for a single. I was able to book the Castelar for the same cost later in my trip and was a lot more comfortable there.
Directions: Palermo Viejo
Arriving at the height of the tourist season, I was lucky to find a room at this charming B and B in Palermo.
An old house converted into several rooms, single and double.
the bathrooms are shared and breakfast is included in the price.
there is always someone at the front desk and when you ring the bell, you are welcomed with a smile.
I have found the hotels in buenos aires to be staffed by rather charmless peopel especially the four and five star categories, so it is nice to find a cozy place to call your own for a few days. if you are interested in meeting other foreigners, this place is usually full and all the guests are from europe.. including unpleasant negritas pretending to be european.. but otherwise harmless travellers on their journey to look for adventure, spanish classes and tango lessons and even bandeneon lessons.
Unique Quality: Bed and Breakfast
Located in Palermo
Chance to meet fellow travellers, who are usually not backpackers
The rooms are okay nothing special
Directions: Palermo very close to the Plaza Italia Subte station
Not a clasy place but it has some good points. The hostests, Flavia and Fernanda, are at the top of the list of highlights. They were friendly and eager to help´in any way they could. We just had to describe what we wanted to do and they arranged it all. The location is also great - right 9in the heart of Palmenaro. There is a lot of restaurants and great night life in Palmero. For the day it is close to the zoo, parks, and a quick ride by Metro to downtown.
As for the downside: The beds were not great. We started off in a room for three. Our duaghter´s bed was soft and comfortable. Our´s felt like plywood. We were moved to a suite for the third night and it was much more comfortable (more expensive too but worth the expense) The first room was also noisy when there were other guests. Sound travels easily through the walls and halls. The suite was a little more isolated and we didn´t hear others there.
