I have not stayed here but was highly recommended by friends. Owned by a lovely women and for single females in particular would be a great place to stay. Focused on the arts as well so lots of good recommendations for enjoying the cultural offerings of Buenos Aires. Locate in Palermo Viejo.
Unique Quality: Female owned and operated hostel. Only one in the city that I know of.
Directions: Palermo Viejo
You won`t find the typical student backpackers in this little place in Palermo viejo; all the people I met there were between 28 and 32 and had some interesting or creative jobs and a lot of interesting stories to tell. There are 3 dormitories, which are spacious and very clean, and where is space for 3- 6 people. They have an individual room as well, which is located on the roof terrace. There are 2 living rooms with high ceilings, which I loved, where you can listen to music or watch TV, a dining room, a kitchen and 3 nice decorated bathrooms- which means that you usually have to share the bathroom maybe with 1 or 2 other persons. The owner- Rossana- has her room in the house as well and she is - like the other members of the staff- adorable! Very often, her friends visit her there, so you should have no problem to get to know locals and speak a lot of spanish. Occasionally there are some cultural events as well. It`s no problem to store your luggage there, when you go to another place. It`s really a niiiice little and quiet little place, although of course you cannot expect the comfort of a hotel.
Directions: Palermo viejo, 5 minutes from Subte station "Plaza Italia" and the Jardin zoologico; and a 10 minutes walk from Plaza Serrano, where you`ll find some bars, restaurants and funny shops close by
