Quaint, Clean but Smokey

Bad (2.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on April 23, 2010

Located in San Telmo near the CasaCHE spanish language school that I attended, has a manned reception desk who let people in and out (have to leave your key when you go out). The building is interesting, very high ceilings, very narrow stairways/corridors/room doors ! Somehow reminds me of old areas of Lisbon. Breakfast area is laid out a bit like a classroom with wooden schooldesks and chairs - quaint. Was told it's quiet and clean so I booked in and paid in advance but regretted this on the first afternoon when I realised a lot of people seem to smoke freely in the shared areas. Would recommend non-smokers tell them if they are sensitive to tobacco smoke, before booking in. One longterm resident seems to be giving tango lessons in the kitchen area which is interesting but inconvenient if you happen to want access or would like a bit of peace and quiet. Dorm rooms seem quite small and are windowless (like I often saw in Malaysia) which might be good to reduce noise levels (or not so good if your dorm neighbs have digestive problems.. :-).

Unique Quality: Very close to CasaCHE and at least one other language school.

Staff seem very friendly.

Reminds me a bit of the 'Million Dollar Hotel' as some residents have been here for months..
