Massage - now a bit of a rip-off

I recently went to the Claridge Hotel for a massage in the Spa Facility as I have done several times in the past.

I was greatly disappointed to find out that within the last 6 months they have almost doubled the price to 230 pesos and knocked off 10 mins from the usual hour !! making it 230 pesos for a 50 min session ?????

It's a real pity as on my previous visits Marta, the Therapeutic Massueur was able to give a Shiatsu Massage for a reasonable price but now I find that Marta has gone and I had a masseur who didn't know what a Shiatsu Massage was ??

Well done Claridge !! - for me you have now joined the " let's fleece the tourists " Club and also adopted the mentality that you can charge what you like for a service that isn't even that good !

Won't be back !

Great value

Check out my page on BA. We also had only a few days there at the end of our cruise. We stayed at the Claridge Hotel in downtown. There was lots to see within walking distance or a short taxi ride. We loved BA. Marvelous city. Make sure you see the cemetery where Eva Peron is buried. We flew home from Santiago so had no time there at all so can't advise you on that city. We thought the hotel was very reasonable and it was clean & comfy, although not fancy. They do have their own web site.

Unique Quality: Nice pool, good service and great location.

Buenos Aires' Surprise Hotel

My husband and I stayed at this hotel from October 11 thru October 18, 2005. In choosing a hotel, we read a lot of reviews and decided on this one, which was advertised as formerly the grandest hotel in the city. The accommodations were very clean, very nicely appointed, however, the rooms described as "spacious" in my opinion were "adequately sized" but I wouldn't describe them as "spacious". The bathroom was also very nicely appointed and included a hair dryer which is sometimes a hard item to find especially travelling out of the country. Also the bathroom size was adequate but not too large. But the excellent service and attention to detail made up for what I might have thought of as small rooms. The staff could not have been nicer. My husband speaks Spanish but they tried hard to communicate in English as well. The hotel has a lovely "lounge" area with a piano player. Unfortunately we only heard the piano player one night. We don't think he was there but for that one night during the week. The room also comes with a morning breakfast buffet which is plentiful. Also, the location of this hotel was fabulous....it was just about one block away from the shopping mecca called Florida Street, home to 1800 vendors!!!!!! We would defintely recommend this facility to others and would stay there again ourselves.

Unique Quality: This hotel had a lovely outdoor heated swimming pool located on the 2nd floor. We were there in October and it was a bit cool for swimming, but the area was immaculately clean and very inviting to just sit on the lounges and soak up the afternoon sun.

More about Claridge

Great central location.

by crazygal59 about The Claridge Hotel.

This was a great little hotel right in the center of town. It was easy to walk almost anywhere from here. It was very clean and had a nice little bar area and diningroom. Breakfast daily was included in our stay. Nothing really fancy, but perfectly adequate for our needs. Would go back for sure. Has a nice pool area. Not large but pretty.

Fabulous location and service

by A TripAdvisor Member

We just got back from Buenos Aires and cannot say enough good things about the Claridge Hotel!!

The location is perfect for sightseeing because it is located in the center of the city and off Florida Avenue. Also, you can walk to several sites and neighborhoods from the Claridge.

The service was sensational!! Everyone at the hotel was helpful and courteous from the front desk to housekeeping. Special praises to Pablo, the concierge who was extremely informative and accomodating.

The hotel pool and spa services are an added bonus after a long day of sightseeing.

The hotel is a great value compared to other 4-5 star hotels(includes a great breakfast buffet). The rooms are European (small), but have nice bathrooms with good amenities (including bathrobes). Also, the business center has free internet service.

Our advice is to stay at the Claridge and spend the money you saved drinking some wonderful malbec wine from Mendoza or purchasing leather goods.

Where's the beef? Argentina

by A TripAdvisor Member

We spent 13 nights at the Claridge Hotel in Buenos Aires. The hotel room was very nice and clean, hotel staff were fantastic, food excellent and location right in the heart of the action. The hotel had a classic European feel. Classy, comfortable and reasonable. Our only complaint was the bathroom was a bit small. We could walk to most activities but if needed the taxis were very reasonable, thousands of them everywhere. Every restaurant, large and small, offered huge steak meals with trimmings and wine included for $10-$15 dollars. We had a great hot air balloon ride over the countryside. Went to a great tango dinner show. Rode horses at a ranch, with entertainment by the gauchos and a fun barbecue lunch including all the food you could eat with beer and wine. We went to a riverboat casino, had a nice dinner, lost a little, but had fun doing it. Very friendly people and a fantastic city. We'll be going back for sure to see some of the others sights of Argentina.

Bad location,noisy place

by TripAdvisor Member blondcybu

We stayed at Claridge in Easter. The service, the breakfast and the afternoon tea was excellent. The lobby wasn´t good (because there weren´t chairs enough to sit). The room was good (but the view wasn´t the same). The bathroom was small. We didn´t like the location (the place is old and near Florida Street) but if you like a place in downtown and noisy that´s nice for you.We couldn´t sleep because at 6 o´clock there was a terrible noise at the top of the building (they were reforming the hotel I think) and a lot of guests were complaining. We called the recepcionist in the lobby and she didn´t say anything for us,she didn´t explain why (about that awful noise) and she didn´t say a basic "I´m Sorry"...In our next trip to BA we will book a better hotel!

March is a very good month for outdoor activities. It may be a little hot (some years, but not all) but really enjoyable.
