Dolmen Hotel

The only reason we picked this four-star hotel to stay was its location: it was one block and a half away from our work base. I did not make any further research before that and did not read any reviews before booking. Once I arrived I liked it overall, especially for the very helpful staff, but found it expensive for what it offered (it was US$100 with taxes for a single or double, and it was supposed to be a corporate rate). If you are on a business trip, you need to hang around downtown and are paid a per diem to stay, then this is your choice. But I am afraid there are better options out there than this one.

Unique Quality: Summarizing, my conclusions are:

Pros: Great location in downtown, near Plaza de Mayo, Obelisco and Florida Avenue. Great breakfast buffet in the morning, clean place, great and kind housekeepers, helpful staff.

Cons: Making the reservation was a total hassle. They do not reply to the emails, they do not reply to the faxes you send, and they make a confusion of bookings, so you are never certain if your booking is still there. One person of our group received a booking confirmation but of another person! I was asked like three times to reconfirm my booking by providing a credit card. I provided the number by phone, because I never provide credit card details by email, but seems they did not write it down in my reservation. Those emails asking for reconfirmation were the only ones I ever got from them.

downtown Buenos Aires - the City

The hotel staff here is very friendly from the front desk to the restaurant to housekeeping. By the time I left after 3 days I had become aquainted with almost everyone on staff.

Unique Quality: Friendly and accommodating staff and very conveniently located in "the city" in downtown Buenos Aires near Florida Street.

More about Dolmen Hotel Buenos Aires

Restaurants are a gastronomical delight!

by maryellen50 about All restaurants

I ate several times at the Hotel Dolmen restaurant (where I stayed for the 3 days) and the food was always GREAT! I am a vegetarian (no meat/flesh) and never had a problem finding food however you do need to ask for the entree without meat as Argentines are not accustomed to vegetarians. All the food everywhere was great. Being a vegetarian I mostly ate Italian dishes and priced within a wide range usually in the the $10-$15 range.

Speaking Spanish here is definitely an asset!

by maryellen50

You will have a great experience here if you speak Spanish as people are very friendly however few speak much English. I liked everything about Buenos Aires including that everything was very reasonable due to the peso devaluation. I rarely changed dollars as everyone seemed to prefer the dollars versus the peso probably due to exchange rate thru the bank. Being a single, female traveler here presented no problems and I felt very safe everywhere I went. Taxis are plentiful and cheap. Good restaurants are everywhere. I think what made my trip to Buenos Aires the most enjoyable was THE PEOPLE! They were very friendly. I stayed at the Hotel Dolmen in the city centre with a very friendly staff and very convenient to everything. And the weather was PERFECT - always around 78 degrees F.
