hotel in san telmo
by AnnPuddu
for various reasons, i need to book a hotel in san telmo for several days last week in september...have been looking at the internet choices and could use some advice...i usually prefer large business-type hotels but the area doesn't seem to offer these so i'm choosing between small boutique hotels in the area. i'd like to be on a street that's fairly lively in the evening but not too noisy or congested (!). prices look comparable but, of course, photos lie...appreciate all help as always.

If you don't mind being just a few blocks out of San Telmo proper then definitely book the Moreno Hotel http://www.morenobuenosaires.com/ Very nice and a good price as well. Other than that there is the new gay hotel The Axel which is really upscale http://www.axelhotels.com/buenosaires/ they do say they are "hetero friendly" :) After that I would recommend the Gurda Tango Boutique Hotel, located on a very central street in San Telmo and excellent service.
Hope this helps and have a great visit
suerte

Travel Tips for Buenos Aires
The Brazilian Embassy
by pili
With a marvelous mansard roof, people say that this embassy is a nice copy of the Jacquemart-Andre Museum on Boulevard Haussmann in Paris. It was built in the 1920's by the Peredas, one of several Argentine families who visited Europe and made copies of the buildings they liked most when they returned.
Regrettably, the Brazilian ambassador's residence is only open to the public for tours on rare occasions.-
Private tango lesson
by ptitetoile
At the end of my holidays, I had finally my fantastic Argentina tango experience with a great tango teacher during a one-hour-private lesson.
He corrected my deportment while dancing and I learned a lot! And all that in a dance room in a old house of San Telmo : waw!!!!
Temaiken Zoo, Outskirts of Buenos Aires
by quickroute
The Buenos Aires city zoo has a reputation for being a bit old and drab and the animals a bit, well, old and drab! However about 60kms outside the city is Temaiken Zoo which is refreshingly clean, interesting, has healthy animals and very well maintained.
If you get bored of the Zoo, there's a big beer garden across the road. What more you you ask for? And now a really corny joke.
Joke: A Man goes to the zoo, but when he arrives there's only a dog?
It was a Shi-tzu!

Inexpensive soft quality leather!
by ets about Tarquino
Attentive, honest sales people providing quality leather goods at fair prices! Natasha and Pablo, the owners, will be more than happy to help you. I bought two leather jackets, each costing a litle over $100. USD. The same jackets would have cost me over $300. USD each in San Francisco. My friend from Buenos Aires said that I got a good deal and that the prices were not inflated even for a foreign visitor like me. $120. USD for a very soft quality leather jacket.
A lively place to spend a night with friends
by cochinjew about el viejo indecente
I normally dont write too many tips on Nightlife, mainly because I travel alone and at night, I am at some dinner spot, eating and drinking and reading. But when friends are around, as in my first night in buenos aires on this fifth visit to the city in 2004.. they chose el viejo indecente.. a nice spot in palermo.. so that i could meet carlito the cuban bartender, we three sat down amidst the sounds of a live band playing and the ever pleasant porteno atmosphere of friendliness and chat...we felt very cuban since the three of us were from the island.. and carlito was paying special attention Casual elegance of a porteno
