Hotel de las Amercas by Ash59 This 4 star hotel is a block away from 9 de Julio (reputed to be the largest avenue in the world) and is central to the main tourist district. From here, you can walk to most of the main attractions, if you so wish. There is a cafe style restauant at both ends of the street that the hotel is situated on, both of which I can recommend. Sorry, can't remember their names but you can't miss them. If you speak english, then ask for a english menu, as they may not issue them unless you ask for them. The hotel has its own cafe/Restaurant which is open from 11am (after breakfast has finished being served). If you sit at a table, they will give you a restaurant menu which can be slightly over the top, if all you want is a coffee and sandwich. However, if you glance up to the bar, there is a menu that displays things like toasted sandwiches and panini's. All rooms are equipped with a telephone, air conditioning and central heating, 21 inch colour TV, individual safe box and hair dryer. Please note that the safe box is free but requires you to use a credit card to close it. This seems to be a bit daft when you might not want to carry any credit cards around with you but that is the way that it is.
I can't say that there are any outstanding characteristics of this accomodation. It is no better or no worse than the majority of hotels that I have been in. The staff are polite and the rooms are kept clean and in good order. I suppose that the main question is whether I would use the hotel again, should I return to Buenos Aires and the answer would be yes, mainly because of its central locaton. I have marked the price as $120 - $180 but this is not per person it is per room, as a single costs the same as a double and the price includes for breakfast.
