looks great...also don't forget to watch a Tango show! And just walking at the parks (Palermo) and Puerto Madero are awesome experiences.. and I see you made sure it was Sunday when you went to San Telmo...and I am glad you included El Tigre which is a nice river canal ride (you can have lungch with the ride at one of the river restaurants)....enjoy! Norman :)

If you like musical plays, I suggest that you check the theaters along Avenida Corrientes, in downtown Buenos Aires.I have allready seen "Victor, Victoria", "Dracula" and "Sweet Charity" there.

Travel Tips for Buenos Aires

Congreso

by DPando

Located at the end of Avenida de Mayo its a lush green square full of trees and gardens where people use to have a bite there or feed pigeons.... Walking by Av Mayo you find the Congreso sq at the end of it... a huge and rectangular square where the main building is at the end as waiting for u .. more or less like Bucharest Parliament ...but nicer !!! lol
After crossing Callao Avenue you are in front of it ...a real huge and spectacular building built in 1906 inspired in Washington DC capitol..
After visit the square as the most sold guides talk about the best option is take the subte and come back to the center ....WRONG idea !!!!

As i try to do always ....looking in hidden nooks or unknown places i kept on walking ahead by Rivadavia Boulevard where there is the Congreso subte stop.... i walked for 4 blocks and turn left to see the Plaza 1? de Mayo ...a little bit disapointed but i could notice other kinda neighbourhood... like a workers one who go to the city to work and come back at evening...the architecture was quite different to other neighbourhoods and most revelaled some blocks further .... !! it wasnt spectacular but different !! ...worth to visit if u have time ....called Balvanera and san Cristobal neigbourhoods

Castellano (Argentinian Spanish Language)

by namidub

Its always a good thing to learn something about the place you r visiting, and learning some basic Castellano (or spanish) phrases be a great help, and fun too!
Since not all of Portenos (BsAs people) can speak fluent English, communicating with them in their own language will help especially in taxi, and smaller shops.

I picked up Lonely Planet's Spanish phrasebook a month before i go,which turned out to be quite helpful.

PILETAS PUBLICAS!!

by RafaelTheSecond

Buenos Aires has no beaches...at least what we call "beaches". The Plata River baths the whole city but of course we cannot swim there..too much pollution which is pety becuse the river is a real sea!!! It is enormous...still serves the city a lot. It has a very important port after the huge port of Bahia Blanca, it is also very important for fishing..specially where the river meets the ocean. And the River is quite clean in the uruguayan side and also in the countryside of Argentina in provinces like EntreRios and Corrientes!

So the argentineans just have some cool options, the public pools which are quite common in Buenos Aires!!!

THIS ONE IS PARQUE DEL PLATA!!!!

It is one of the refreshing option people have when they decide to stay in the city during the weekends!!!

I highly recommend you to go there!!! ONLY LOCALS!!!

Plaza Almagro

by DPando

Its an absolutely off beaten path tip !!! ..located in at all touristic place i could enjoy just sitting meanwhile those elder men were playing chess...and some homeless trying to find something more fun that arrange all its stuff !

Located upwards from Miserere square in a worker's quarter amidst Corrientes and Rivadabia boulevard doesnt have any special to see if you are looking for highlights ... but such things dont impress me so much...i rather to walk alone quietly just looking at hidden or normal things as people lifes !!
that was a good place to enjoy like i fancy much !!

BUENOS AIRES : BOOKSHOPS WITH ENGLISH BOOKS

by swesn

Intellectual Buenos Aires is a bookshop paradise. In fact, the Argentinians have one of the highest literacy rate - 96% - in the world.

If you read Spanish, you will be spoilt for choices for the MANY VERY GOOD Spanish Literature in the hundreds of bookshops (new and used) EVERYWHERE and you will probably come out very broke.

If you are looking for English books, here are my recommendations after scouring all over city for 2 months...

ABC at Avenida Cordoba 685 has VERY INTELLECTUAL AND GOOD English books but VERY EXPENSIVE. All are priced in US$ and British Pounds.

LIBRERIA RODRIGUEZ, Sarmiento 835 / another branch on Florida, has a not-bad selection of GOOD English books. But they are misguided about our choices by stocking a whole section of classics and Shakespeare (as if WE read those…).

EL ALTENEO, Florida 340 / Santa Fe 1860, has thrillers and the usual Danielle Steel, John Grisham, etc... ‘best-sellers’.

DISTAL, several on Florida, have a handful of English books. May be able to find something good if you are lucky.
