Nice hostel/hotel in Buenos Aires
by snowstorm1981il
Looking for a nice backpacker's hostel (privates, no dorms), or a not too expensive hotel in Buenos Aires.
Should be in a "calm" area, close to public transportation.
Anyone has an advice?

I stayed last march in Sarmiento Suites, in the center of BA, it costed me 28 US$ for a double room with breakfast, close to everything and you can cook, has cable TV in a separate room, etc

Booking Domestic Flight
by bobweaver
Should I book a flight from BA to Iguazu here in the states or just wait until I land in BA?? Is there a price difference? The only price I have been able to get is $263 US on travelocity.com. Also, any hotel recommendations for BA for a young couple? Thanks.

one of my brazilian agents told me it's cheaper to book the fligth in BA, that's true for Brasil, I think it should be the same for USA; another idea is to book a ticket USA-Iguazu with Aerolineas Argentinas. I'm going to El Calafate next month and I booked the ticket this way Rio- El Calafate with Aerolineas Argentinas.
I'm going to stay in Sarmiento Suites, 3* hotel in the center of BA and it will cost us US$28 for a couple.

We went via LAPA last week when we were in Iguazu - it was a flight that went on to Sao Paulo. It may have been cheaper than Aerolinias Argentinas-Austral. We also stayed at the Sheraton Internacional Hotel. You can see the Brazlian falls from the front of the hotel.
Right now I am writing this message from Ushuaia in Tierra del Fuego

Buenos Aires Accomodation
by travelingbunny
Hi Everyone,
I am traveling with 3 friends to Argentina over the christmas holiday and had a few questions I'm hoping someone will be kind enough to help me with. First of all, where to stay? I have been looking at what appears to be a cute B&B calles domusBA http://www.domusba.com.ar/ in the Old Palermo neighborhood. Has anyone syaed here, or can at least tell me if this is a convenient/ safe place to stay for 4 women? Also, although we are on a relatively tight budget, we would like to take one trip out of BA to somewhere else in the Country. If you could recommend just one other place to go for 2 or 3 days, where would it be? Many thanks in advance.

Sarmiento Suites was a good place we stayed in BA, see my Argentina or BA pages for details; you can go to Mar del Plata on the coast or to Punta del Este or Piriapolis in Uruguay

Hi
Or take a visit to San Antonio de Areco and see some of the 'gaucho life' in a rural Argentinean (little) town. There is accommodation in the town or sleep on an estancia (will be more expensive)
Have fun

Travel Tips for Buenos Aires
THE HOUSE
by RafaelTheSecond
It was very emotional for me to walk to his house, entering the streets when the young Gardel should have played when he was a kid, seeing the same trees that he saw one day, and be in a home where he had his daily life, one of the greatest idols of my life...But I found!!!
They lived there from 1927 to 1933, and they were happy, the goverment of Buenos Aires is doing a very nice preservation work and the house now is a lovely museum.
Books for sale
by cochinjew
Near Plaza Italia one comes across a series of kiosk like bookshops one after another, stacked with books, old and new and rare and unobtainables.. one could bargain for the price.
One of the casualties of the economic bust has been BOOKS since the prices have risen steeply and the books printed in other countries have been priced out of argentines
El Tigre: A Relaxing Day Outside the City
by ukmagicman
El Tigre is a small town located about 35km from the city of Buenos Aires. You can reach the town by train from BA or take one of the many tours to the area. Tigre is a very quiet and relaxing town and a great place to go and unwind.
You can start by taking a boat trip on the River which takes about 45 minutes and takes you through the Delta so you can watch life on the river and see the many beautiful houses that like the Delta.
Afterwards you can stroll the streets of Tigre to do a little bit of shopping or head over to the tourist train which takes you to other spots of interest nearby.
El Tigre also has a theme park inbetween the town and the Delta, which looked quite interesting; however, we did not visit it so I can not share any info on how good it is.
Funky Men's clothing
by ncoutroulis about Felix
Felix is a cool, funky boutique in Palermo Viejo, where most of the young up and coming designers have their shops. You won't find this stuff anywhere else but here. The style is very funky, with unique patterns and styles. And not too expensive. Shirts are about $35US and pants are about $40US. Really nice stuff. Check it out. $30-40 shirts
$40-50 pants
