La Carpa Blanca
by andal13
Here, at Third World countries, protests are a frequent way to express our disappointment with the government; these last years, after the end of the Latin American dictatorships, a lot of protests have happend, and Argentina has not been the exception.
The picture shows the "carpa blanca" (white tent) that the school teachers had installed in front of Congress, asking for best salaries; I took the picture in 1997.
Go to an Estancia ( horse farm)
by Seberus
About 100 Km , about 70 miles outside Buenos Aires is San Antonio de Areco. And in San Antonio there are a number of "Estancias" ( horse and cattle farms) .The one we visited is " El Ombu " which we recommend highly. The horse back ridding is great ( novice or experienced) and the food is terrific . The rooms are great ( 9 of them ) but not air-conditioned, You don't need them. The service very friendly, they will do all they can for you. Bring mosquito repellent! and sun screen , as well as hat for horse back ridding....a highlight of our trip!
Leather shop worth to visit -Silvia y Mario
by fredyyy about Silvia y Mario ´s
This family owned shop carries a great variety of leather jackets, and what we liked the most was actually seeing the tailoring process being made in front of our eyes.
In this era of low quality and big quantity goods is nice to find a place where workers still use their hands!!
The owner, Silvia, is a fine lady who also designs the styles. She showed us the factory, gave us a brief about leather and finally we picked up our garments. I got a gorgeous skirt
They are made out of a soft leather (lambs skin) They offer great leather jackets for a very reasonable price ( we foudn cheaper some plae else, but their quality and design really woth it). Long leather coats and tailored short jackets.. and of course skirts made to measure!! Somewhere between 180 and 200 dollars. You get a discount if you pay cash
